I used to be a hippy in the Northern Soul heyday (looked like Neil out of the young ones!) , and well into Rock music , but loved soul / northern just as much.
Got chased and beat by a mob of Northern soul freaks while at a northern soul gig in Rhyl (North wales 1973) , just coz i stood out like a sore thumb !
Hard to say which is my favourite northern soul song , 2 spring to mind 1. " i got the fever " by the Prophets , 2 " cause you're mine " by the vibrations .

1973 god i was on only 8 then . long hair like that you must have well stood out but should not matter what you look like if you in to the same music.

Both songs you like are quality ones i can picture myself doing a backdrop now

Love Northern Soul. In my elements late 70`s. Still regularly trawl youtube for good videos. Tons of excellent sounds but my favourite is probably What by Judy Street.
