Take as much info with you to court. Ask all those questions Lainie mentioned earlier in the thread.

The liability order is to prove you owe that money. If you can throw doubts into their case it won't be granted.

Let's be honest, it's a government department, they won't be ready for the spanish inquisition.

Make sure you have the dates of when you were working & not working. As well as proof of your wage at each job.

You don't have to agree to a repayment plan there & then, they have to send out a means form for you to fill in. If it get's to that send me a PM. A friend has the data relating to maximum amounts allowed without questioning why.

i.e. You can claim about ?200 is spent on transport costs per month. It won't be questioned, even if you use a push bike to get to work. (that figure might be wrong, so don't quote me on that just yet)

can i ask what age your child or children are? just curiosity as nowadays when a child reaches 7 the lone parent HAS to come off income support and claim jsa. however most claim esa saying they are all of a sudden too ill to work. if you can find out what benefit your ex is on it may help your case as if i were you id turn it around. ie i she on esa if so why. if its depression (she is saying) ask if she is fit enough to look after child etc.

just trying to give you ammo etc.

wish i could help you more.

WE ARE TAKING LEGAL ACTION AGAINST YOU

and it goes on to say the liability order has been granted against me then it says loads of stuff like the bailiffs will come'all really nasty what happens next guys
                also says
THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THIS LEGAL ACTION IS TO PAY IN FULL IN 7 DAYS

update guys was told not to waste my time going to court i didnt have enough evidence to change the decision

i've recieved another letter today saying
We are taking legal action against you

Despite reminders you have still not paid blah blah

A liability order has been granted against you which means a court recognises that you have to pay the ?750.00 that you owe from period blah blah

As we have a liability order, we are now taking legal action against you to recover this debt.
                  This could mean:
-bailiffs seizing your property and selling it
-the sale of your home in order to pay the debt
-the removal of your driving licence
-the possibility you will go to prison

The only way you to stop this action is to pay now in full blah blah"

whats the next step guys what do i do

                        Support CSA

I have to put a word in for the CSA here, cos without it a lot of mums who take on the care of the kids would be right on their arses !

My daughter picked up with a fella, only l;asted a few months but she got pregnant and he promised her the world, he was gone before the kid was even born. She got onto the CSA, and they arranged a 'mutual agreement' between the two, of just ?100 a month, peanuts. Anyway, he wouldnt even stick by that one, so she had to report back to the CSA. Now he has been taken to court by them, and she gets ?400 a month, and backpayments, and ~~~~ HIM !

well unlike him i've paid nearly ?20000
havent a problem in supporting a child but the system punishes the dads who actually try to make a better life for there family
its only gone to court because now he is 16 and working'
i would of carried on with the attachment of earning but they said it wasnt enough so they had to get a liability order on me
now they want ?9000 instantly in this day and age
                          honestly am i missing something

?400 a month for 1 child - sorry i think thats far far too much. she will also get child tax credit etc. much as i feel sorry for your daughter it takes 2 to tango and she fell pregnant to someone she had only known for a few months. its not all his fault.

Let them bring the bailifs into it, then when they send a letter to you reply to the letter and ask how you owe them money, when they say they brought your debt reply by saying thankyou. If they take you to court ask the judge if he will try the case unbiastly. this will stump him as he can not as he works for the queen and it is the queens government who are chasing you for money. Never admit or deny you owe the money.
But then again you might just want to pay it.
