out of the seven adult GSD's ive owned over the years i personally never seen this problem ie pyoderma
but have had three with sensitive stomachs
i have tried various foodstuffs over the years mostly dried foods none in particular car better than others to be honest
dogs have very a quick digestive system so most of the dried foods are just bulk with soya wheat basesad or corn based bulking that the dogs cant digest but have fatt added which they can digest
some low end foods for the dogs can cause (in my experience)
colitis due to being rough and on gsd's sensitive bowel linings bleed
thing is to try a few foods dry and others see if a balance can be sought
if the problem is indeed allergenic in origin
bearing in mind dogs as people can suffer genetic problems resulting in intolerance to certain things like as said before shampoo
but without excluding diet
this is something you can play around with to see what might have a positive effect (this can take months though)
i now feed the one German shepherd i have left on a few different thing rotated not out of any sort of system but just to vary the diet a bit to be honest
i have found chappie to be a great food for dogs with poor stomachs but this worked for me might not be scientifically proven but did settle the stomach of a few dogs when ill or having digestive problems
mostly its a case of trial and error
but try some different foodstuffs for a week see what transpires
but have a google as a few gsd breeders and some military and police dog trainers have some very good info on GSD problems and common things with the breed in general
good luck and it could also be too high a protein or fat saturated diet but again conjecture to say definitely but search on line as some owners on some sites have very good info i hope it can be cured cheaply and gets the dog more comfortable in a short period
also where do you walk the dog ? also a factor if dealing with allergens (if indeed that is the problem)
