Does anyone suffer from tonsil stones

For a few months now i have a bad taste coming from the back of my throat and have been spitting up small yellow/white balls which smell absolutely disgusting. After some research i have discovered they are called tonsil stones and are left over food and bacteria which lies in crevices in the tonsil and rots and calcifies. I put a torch up to the mirror and pulled back my tonsil flap and i can see a pile of these bloody things in there. I am thinking of getting a water pik from boots as nearly all advice online says this is the best treatment barr removing the actual tonsil via surgery. I just wondered if anyone else on here has this gross problem.

My partners 10 year old suffers from swollen tonsils a lot. But I don't think he gets the stones. Just nasty puss & pain.

my daughter,(now 16), suffered from tonsil stones for at least 8 years. her breath stank of a sour milk smell even though she rigourously brushed her teeth, used mouthwashes etc.
last year she had to get her tonsils out.
      no more problem.
      no more bad breath.
      no more sore throats.
her appetite is back to normal.
her self esteem is raised as she is not embarassed about her bad breath.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news but
get the tonsils out sooner rather than later.
      its the only real solution.
The longer you leave it, the more inflamed the area surrounding the tonsils will get.
you can't usually get your tonsils removed until the tonsils are less inflamed.
and the younger the person is, the less traumatic the operation and the quicker the recovery

i got my tonsils and adenoids out when i was 12. in my 30s i suffered repeated sore throats and the doc said i had suspected tonsilitis. i told him that was impossible as i had no tonsils but he said i had tonsular tissue at the back of my throat???

hope you get it sorted johnboy.

I get tonsil stones occasionally mate, normally every few months. If I leave it for 6 months, then it gets to a point where I have to deal with it.

Rather than surgery, I put my index finger in my mouth, press on the right hand side wall of my mouth where the little flap is (and the tonisl stones are located) and press.

I know this is gross, but the stones comes out like squeezing toothpaste from a tube. Sometimes you get one or two, others you can be there for a minute and loads come out.

They absolutely stink, but once out then no nore bad taste in your mouth and no more bad breath. Sorted!

                        Tonsil Stones

Just thought I'd reply to this thread...I get them all the time. Both tonsils. My tonsils frequently look big and red. It seemed to start from a bout of tonsilitis. I get the same symptoms as you...horrible stink/taste. Terrible breath no matter how much I clean my teeth, even the mouthwash shrugs its shoulders after 5 minutes.

They get annoying when I leave them as they scrape against my tongue when I swallow. My girlfriend used to prod them out with a tooth pick until I totally lost my gag reflex now I can literally squeeze my tonsils with my fingers and get them out. I can't get them all out ever and I suspect there are more either behind my tonsils or deep inside

My doctor wasn't totally against me having them out, but I think it's less routine now to have a tonsilectomy than it used to be and not that pleasant when you're an adult hence I'm apprehensive about it.

Let me know how you get on with this.

PS: I used to get a lot more sore throats until the tonsil stones appeared, maybe they're trapping all the crap? I don't know!

I got viciously kicked once by a girl and my stones ended up at my tonsils.
