I feel your pain. Looking at a similar situation myself. The old girl has been the most reliable car I've ever owned... but with the inner wings are showing worrying patches & the power steerings as slack as a choir boys ring hole after a month in the vatican.

That and she's ~~~~ing thirsty... killing me at an amazing 25mpg.

I've also been offered ?180 scrap for her. That's after I've taken several parts off.

Trading standards are the laziest bunch of toss pots I have ever known.

I've sent 2 emails in the last 3 weeks, nothing back. My last contact with them was to confirm they got all the documentation I had on the issue so far.

Gonna sack them off & fix the car. Keep tabs on the cost then take him to small claims.
On the bright side, I get to choose the court it's seen in...that's a 200 mile journey to try & defend himself.. 200 miles back.
If I get nothing else, it will be worth putting him through the hassle... there might be some surprises for him as well
