as I remember it, the use of the poppy to remember the fallen came about after WW1. A rather bloody battlefield became a sea of poppies after the war ended. It was such a sight that it was adopted to represent those that died.
I'm also under the impression that it not only represents UK soldiers, but all those that have fallen in battle.
As to the rest of your comments, I think I'm going to ignore them. You have to be under the influence of drugs.
~~~~ knows what you own about
I wish I was on drugs I would not have remembered the dead.
On the other hand you do not want to talk about the poor people getting killed by no reasons.
1. Drones.
2. Poor Palestinians getting slaughters for land.
Those are the people you have ignored and do not want to talk about for reason of ignorant and the western power.
a true hero amongst many:
Chindits DCM's : Cpl Peter DORANS
my papa papa (dads papa)
he is mentioned in very old book, the battle of chindwins i think its called, and he is commended for his bravery, he had loads of medals aswell. He was one of the last surviving soldiers from the second world war, i think it was 2000 he died. Channel 4 tried numerous times to get him to appear or talk in a documentary about his time in the war, but he refused everytime, and rightly so, it was not a time he wanted to remember.
Regardless of what he saw and what went on and the things he did to survive and at such a young age, he was such a lovely man, he always called me paisley instead of chelsea, bless. What i do remember of him was that he never eaten another banana after he came back from burmha and that he was always happy
I am proud of my papa papa, as i am all our other soldiers.
We are remembering, so they are not forgotten. x x xLast edited by ChelseaBun; 11 November, 2011, 13:59.
We do not only remember the second world war soldiers read the song.
A Remembrance Song
Song: Poppy Petals - "Old soldiers never die, They simply fade they say...... "
We will remember all .....
Sadly, due to the current intensive operations, the names of many young men and women are now being added to war memorials throughout the land.
We give thought also to the many who are injured but, due to the miracles of modern medicine, are increasingly surviving with horrific injuries.
So, on Remembrance Day, we remember these people as well as those from the two great wars.
Remembrance Sunday: Queen's composer says he will boycott poppies
The Queen`s composer has said he will never to wear a poppy again because he feels the cause has been "hijacked" to support the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
But Sir Peter decided for the first time this year not to buy a poppy or attend any Remembrance Day ceremonies in protest over the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
He blamed politicians for "spinning" Remembrance Day into an event that "legitimised" those recent conflicts together with those "entirely justified" two great world wars.
