Hi,
I'm looking at going to the States for 12-18months initially on a J1 visa as part of Internship training and was just wondering if you could answer me a couple of questions so I can get a rough idea on prices. I'll be ideally going to Miami, FL or Boston, MA.

I know somethings will differ from State to State, but a rough idea is always a good state.

Looking at property rental...is the rental price plus tax, like how it is with shopping, etc? For example $1500 a month plus TAX, or is TAX included?

Also, do you have to pay anything to the government/local council each month/year for the property? Like in the UK we have to pay council tax which funds the local government and council.

Any and all taxes are generally included in your rental agreement. There's no need to be concerned about added taxes as you mention, but as usual, always review your contract thoroughly.

Well i'll tell you this $1500 a month will get you a rental house in Miami and a small crappy apartment in Boston. You should be more worried what part of any city in America you want to stay since it could me life or death. I know if Florida you should stay in Miami Beach not Miami ( Their is a difference ) can't say much about Boston since i never been their. As always read up where your going and remember if it's really cheap then it's somewhere in the getto. Have a safe trip

Yeah I am definitely looking at the area. The ones I've been looking at seem in a pretty decent area and look fairly modern and clean. Miami is my first choice, and was looking at Miami beach as I've been before and really liked it.
