Think ive pulled or torn my calf muscle.

Played badminton last night and all ok after 45 minutes of play.
Went to play a shot and it fight like id been shot by a sniper!
Looked round to see if my mate had hit me with his racket.

Im guessing ive pulled my calf,very painful i cant walk or put the sole of my foot to the ground.

What worries me is i go to Portugal in 4 weeks tomorrow to play 5 rounds of golf in 5 days.

Anyone know what my chances are or has anyone had a similar injury?
Im resting at the moment taking ibuprofen and applying ice.

Try wearing flight socks as well. They should improve blood flow through the calf.

Try a herbal remedy andy called rhus tox- its available by special order from your chemist. It should help you recover quicker.

Worst thing about it was i heard a popping sound.
At first i was shittin myself because i was thinking the worst,ive seen 2 guys go down with ruptured achillies and thats a long slog and time off work.

I did mine two years ago playing football.

There was a loud popping sound followed by a sharp pain. I thought someone had thrown a brick at my leg.

Managed to walk to the car and drive to the pub after the game. Got up the next day for work and could hardly walk.

Went to hospital and they knew straight away that I'd ruptured my achilles.

Get to the hospital today and get them to check it out.

Googled a bit and torn calves come is 3 grades and do pop.
I think mine is the grade 2 which im hoping can be sorted in 4 to 6 weeks.
Dont see no visible swelling or bruising yet which im hoping is a good sign.
Did fall like a stone though when it went. I thought my mate hit me with his racket but was no where near me.

That sounds better than I thought. Hopefully it's your calf muscle. Still sounds nasty though.

See how you go on within the next few days. Reason I said get to the hospital today was, if it was an achilles problem, the quicker you can get it looked at, the better the recovery.

Cheers mate,had a few sprains and ligament troubles in the past but never a pull or a break so been lucky i guess.
Lying on the bed with a bag of frozen sausage rolls strapped to my calf

definately sounds like a ruptured achilles tendon mate, the most defining factor is that you felt like you had been kicked. The pain in your calf will be where the tendon has retracted to. You get very little bruising with ruptured tendons as they have a limited blood supply. If it was a grade 2 tear of your gastrocnemius muscle (calf) you would have one hell of a bruise following gravity towards your foot. push on where your achilles used to be (sorry!!!) with 2 fingers and compare it to the over one. if there is a gap you will need it immobilising pointing downwards with an adjustable fixed boot like appliance, or if you are particually active and young you could be offered surgery. Ruptured achilles tendons are easy to diagnose because quite simply you cant find it to manipulate!!!!

sorry pal standing on your tip toe is just one indication, no bruising points to an achillies injury, the easiest way to diagnose it is to pull your foot upwards and feel for the achillies, i fear in this case it either wont be there, or wont be as big as the other one which would be a partial rupture!! Achillies ruptures are treated with the foot extended (pointing downwards) and diagnosed with the foot pulled upwards!! bit difficult over the tinterweb but trust me i've seen blinking loads!!

I hope it isn't your achilles, as it's a long recovery process.

Correct jibbyy that's called Thompson's test and confirms the diagnosis if there is too much swelling to feel if the achillies is intact!! definately recommend a trip to A+E for a 4 hour wait for a 5 minute consultation to tell you if the tendon is intact or not.

Quick update on my injury thankfully ive tore my Gastrocnemius muscle which is the biggest muscle in the calf.
Quite common injury and you get similar results to the Achillies with the sharp pain and popping noise and the feeling like you have been shot scenario'
Had some physio tonight after my visit to the hospital and they say all should be fine withing 5 to 8 weeks providing i do the R.I.C.E bit.
