    Wife wanting a coffee maker.

My wife is wanting a coffee maker..something like a Tassimo where you use a cartridge. Can anyone recommend a certain make and model ? She is after one that the cartridges dont cost a fortune to buy.

You could go for a "bean-to-cup" machine instead as it works out a lot cheaper to run than a cartridge system and the coffee is much nicer.

We got a Gaggia machine from Amazon cheap a few years ago, you just put water in the tank (or have it plumbed in like I did) and coffee beans in the hopper and at a press of a button it grinds the beans and makes a really nice cup of coffee in around 25 seconds. It makes cappuchino or latte too.

The machines are around the same price as tassimo machines, but beans are cheaper than the cartridges by quite a lot.

We bought a Phillips Senseo from carboot for a quid. And get the coffee pads from France when we do the booze cruise or hols, a lot cheaper. Bit of a rip off in this country.
The coffee is is from Very Ok to Good, but 1 pad only does about 1/2 a mug of coffee. Need to warm ya milk before in Micro wave too or its a little too cool.

i have to agree with what the others are saying bout the quality of the coffee from pods plus they might even become discontinued for a newer model. i like the filter coffee machines, you can get the beans from cafes and they will grind them for you and it makes more than one cup and you can have it as strong as you like with the different flavour beans too.

although the george clooney advert would sell the tassimo to me everytime

Very true, as are some of the other problems that have been mentioned.

I like to be free to choose the coffee that I want to, and I like my coffee HOT, so I use a percolator. It's a nuisance to clean, but worth it.

Been using Nespresso or bout 8 years now, still using my original machine, can't fault it.
The coffee capsules aint the cheapest but the coffee taste I think is on par par with any ground coffee.

Don't think you can get better than bean to cup but I think they are too costly...for me anyway.

I use the Krups Dolce Gusto pod machine. It has loads of different variaties to choose from. Personally I use Barista or Double Intenso and my daughters also use it for chococino.

Pods are approx ?3.40 for 16 pods in Tesco but if you used chococino or cappachino then you only get 8 because you get 8 flavour and 8 milk to mix. They say the chococino is great.

As for coffee not being really warm....I find if you heat the cup up first with boiling water, then it is much warmer.

It's as close to bean to cup that I have tasted.

Had quick look on line, Nespresso machines are starting at ?79 and the capsules are 29p, you can only get the capsules from Nespresso on line.

Don't buy before you taste the cofee. Go to one of these mega stores and try one. They usually offer. I have a Tassimo, it's ok but a friend of mine doesn't like the taste at all
