    BR/cumulative tax code error

A few weeks ago i recieved a new tax code in the post BR which i know is basic rate 20%. I phoned the HMRC up and the code was swiftly changed back to 747L as it was an error, i only have one job, they thought i had 2!. However recieved my wages this week and iv been taxed ?216 and took home ?55! the code on my payslip being "BR/cumulative" (im no accountant so whats all this?) now sureley i should have been taxed only 20% until my employer recieves the new code or am i missing something here.

reason im asking on here,, payrol are closed till tues and need a couple of clues before i give them a rocket.

Br cumulative will take 20% of all income to date, as opposed to br w1/m1 which would only take 20% of the current gross pay

Wk 1 or mth 1 will actually give you the basic personal allowance before deductions on a non cumulative basis, e.g. if you dont work for a month you cant carry your allowance over to another month in the same employment.
BR is given if no p45 or p46 has been completed.

Dont understand the huge 80% deduction from your wage though, unless they messed up the month before?

cheers guys seems to be sorted now, im now on 747l week 1, iv had to send p45s into hmrc to now get rid of the week 1 then il get my wage back, so im told but of corse theres a backlog at the hmrc and its going to take time.
