Hi if any one of you is a Northern Rock Customer Please be aware of a scam going around at the moment...
As we all are aware the Northern Rock have been in deep shit lately, and those that have mortgages with them will have been a little worried as to whats going on.
Well i personally got a phone call yesterday which seemed very legit at the time. it goes something like this.
Hello is that Mr xxxxxxx xxxxx xxxxxxx , he even knew my middle name and not many peeps know that , not even good friends.
He then says that he is calling from the Northern Rock, and has been reviewing all customers accounts, he noticed that i had been paying a protection cover that i shouldn't have been, also in the last 10 years ( any credit cards i have had, i am entitled to the bank charges to be returned to my account )
He then goes on to give his name and his contact number, then tells me my address, post code, bank card number, everything about me, then asks me to confirm this, which i did as it was correct.
Then he says he will be sending out a form from the Northern Rock to fill in and return as i am owed ?2200 in payments i shouldnt have been paying, also i would get interest from the last 10 years.
Also he would send out 5 additional forms for any credit card details i had in the last 10 years as i am entitled to refunds from them.
All they ask for at this time is ?100 in administration costs to be deducted from my overall returns.
Then he says, thanks for my time, and a member of the legal staff will phone me within an hour to confirm all of this.
IT ALL SEEMS VERY GOOD AT THIS TIME, VERY LEGIT, SO I AM THINKING HEY HEY AT LEAST ?2200 TO SPEND ON ANOTHER CRUISE. TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. ?
About 20 minutes went buy and another dude phoned me, repeating most of what the first guy said , and a few more legal issues. Also i will get the forms in the next few days.
I AM THINKING YIPPEE WHEN I GET OFF THE PHONE.
5 minutes later the first dude phones and asks me to confirm last 3 digits of my bankers card, remember he read my bank card number so i am thinking he knew anyway.
THIS IS WHERE I GOT LUCKY .
I gave him my savings card 3 digits, and luckily i had previously emptied my savings for my holidays, so the account was empty.
He phoned again and asks if i have any credit cards, this is where i clicked and immediately cancell my other card.
ITS SO EASY TO GET SUCKERED INTO THIS, SO PLEASE BEWARE AND DONT EVER GIVE OUT THE LAST 3 DIGITS ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARDS, ESPECIALLY NORTHERN ROCK CUSTOMERS AT THE MOMENT.
We have been looking into changing mortgages from the Northern Rock to somewhere else the last 6 weeks, and have been getting many letters and phone calls, and i never gave this scam a thought.
