I use eu.news.astraweb.com and have a 100Mb line and I get a constant 98Mb (around 12MB) download speed using newsleecher.

I also use sabsnzbd with same server on a different pc and still get a constant 98Mb download speed.

Virgin has recently changed the max connection speed in my superhub to 110Mb (used to be 100Mb), it makes very little different at the moment though.

                When I had a 50Mb line I used to get a constant 47Mb (around 48MB) download speed.

so it looks like with usent servers we are getting roughly 10% dl speeds then

                  ie 50 mb gives 5mb and 100 gives 10mb

I would say on usenet you should get close to 100% download speeds. Most people are confusing Megabit with megabyte.

I roughly get 98% download speed from astraweb and have done so since I was on 20meg line 3 years ago.

I've always had similar performance going right back to dial-up days and cable & wireless, 12 or 13 years ago.

Nealery all the people I know also get the same performance on virgin, but with ADSL it's a different story, and yes it can be as low as 10% speed.

But compared to other forms of downloading IE torrent & p2p, usenet is quicker and safer.

I get around 95% download speed on BT infinity 40mb usually get around 38mb using newsleecher and a Euro server, Even before that on Sly ADSL2+ i only got around 6mb but still achieved around 4.5-5mb download.
