I work for a bank and we have targets to meet every month, I took not well for two weeks, now I've returned to work all they go on about is my targets, they still expect me to hit my usual targets even though I was not well for two weeks, the doctor gave me a 2 week line, I'm part of the union but there kind of useless, I feel under so much stress I feel like crying! Are they aloud to do this ? If not how do I go about complaining about it ...

Yes they still expect me to meet my monthly targets, but how is that actually possible after being ill for two weeks and I wasn't off with 'stress' or the usual bullshit people say I was in hospital for a week and the doctor gave me a weeks line to recover so I was genuinely ill

You need to read your contract, it may be that they can still expect your to meet your target. Years ago I used to work for an Assurance Company; I had to do Jury Service which normally lasts 2 weeks but the case I was on continued for over a month. When I went back to work I was informed that I had to make up that month's target on top of the return month's target, If not then I had to pay back all monies that I had been paid.
I told them to stick it where the sun don't shine and told them I resigned and walked out. But back then it was easier to get other employment.Comment

I think it's awful that high street banks are effectively target driven sales outlets. It's this kind of shit that gets so many people in debt and basically conned into buying insurances they don't need etc.
They tried to sell me a mortgage of nearly 100k more than I needed to buy the house we were after with the line, 'you might as well take it because your credit is good enough and you can spend it on decorating the house or a holiday.' FFS :S
Anyway, that doesn't help you... I think your best bet is to be proactive about it rather than let them push you around, do the figures a bit and demonstrate on paper that if it weren't for the 2 weeks ill you'd be on target; maybe put together a proposal showing how you plan to catch up/retrospectively meet your targets in the coming months. Be flexible but firm and don't let them make you promise to deliver something you can't.
Get it all written down and/or recorded as you've done nothing wrong. The union and/or your lawyer, if it comes to it, will be able to put together a much stronger case if you can show all the effort you went to in rectifying a problem that was fundamentally theirs and not yours.
They're probably shouting at you because their bosses are shouting at them and they probably should have had some plan in place for how to meet the branch targets if people take unplanned absence, so they may feel a bit of a twat and are taking it out on you

I used to be a senior union rep and my advice to you is
1. arrange a meeting with your union rep and explain you are not happy with the way you are being treated upon your return to work and you want it raised via the union as the company has a duty of care.
2. If still no joy then i suggest you raise a grievance against the person who is discriminating you , this will go to his manager and HR.
3. If still no joy you can appeal against the decision that was made in the grievance hearing.Comment
