Redundancy payments vary massively depending on what job you do. My wifes oldest brother is being made redundant next month from a steel works and he's getting ?34000, thats for 19 years service. Now i've worked for a very well known house builder for 22 years and if i get made redundant i'll be lucky to get ?10000.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I do not know the answer.

Statutory redundancy payments are not all that great. The entitlement is 1.5 weeks pay per year of service - and that is based on years worked over the age of 41. Between the ages of 22 and 40 the statutory rate is one week compo per year of service. The statutory maximum payout is for twenty years and the current maximum weekly pay amount is ?350 per week. Prior to 1 Feb 2009 it was ?330 per week.

The big payoffs are generally because the employer has commited to better contractual terms, specifically related to current contractual rates of pay. If you do not have a written contractual entitlement to more, then the maximumemployer obligation in a redundancy is to pay ?330 for each year of service up to a max of twenty years plus outstanding holiday pay etc.

ive all ways worked in the building trade and never been able to keep a job long enough to amass any redundancy payments of any amount so ?330 looks very good to me m8 especially as the housing booms and busts happen on a regular basis those people who do get a reasonable payment fair dos to them but in my eyes they are lucky

Yes gmb there are a lot of people in the same boat as they get pissed of with one job and move on. I've been there twice and lost out so now i'm trying to hold on to this one for a while ( got 7 years in now ). Maybe the Gov or the unions could do a deal with builders to help out guy's in your situation especially with the amount of profits they make off houses.

good idea m8 but the payments would have to be fairly good because the chance of getting more than a few years continuous service in the building trade are practically zilch and what about the self employed who can work for a company
for years then get laid off, again zilch fair enough they get better wages than those on the books but still end up in the same boat, them that end up with a few grand should think themselves lucky no matter how you look at it

Sorry to hear that m8. Its all doom and gloom on the jobs front these days. Maybe you'll be lucky .I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya m8.

                  THE TRUTH
                  The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.
