    PETROL prices? why they getting higher

    Why when oil is at the lowest it has been at for god knows how long are we still paying an average of 90.p per litre

    when it was 150$ we were paying ?1.30 at the pump per litre

    crde oil is $35.00 a barrel an we are paying around 90.0 pence

    so the oil price has dropped around 75% but our petrol price has only dropped 31%

    they are always quick to put the price up when oil was going up but for some strange reason they never bring it down as quick or use some excuse why they cant bring it down .

    its the same with the banks . interest rates are the lowest in history but the banks dont pass it on to us .

    im getting sooo pissed of at getting shafted by this country

    thats my little moan over now

    Most of it is tax but some of it is the petrol companies fleecing us now.

      They think we are daft. They will tell you that oil is traded in futures, so what you are paying for at the pump now, according to them they paid for that maybe 3 months ago when it was higher. So the price has been gradually (slowly) coming down as we go along the months....so why then did it go back up a few weeks ago....cos of tension in the middle east.....but what happened to the oil being traded in futures, surely we shouldnt have seen the increase for 3 months.

      We are getting shafted by the retailers, crude oil has been generally under $40 for a while now so Opec only gets that per barrell, so the fluctuation in the price is from the retailer....although if the Government didn't shaft us so much with tax on it then we wouldnt be complaining at all.

        yeah they only seem to come out with that when oil is cheap so they can justify keeping the price up . but i bet you if oil shoots back up to $150 a barrel there is no way they would wait 2-3 months to hike the price again .

        petrol should donly be about 65.p just now but for some reason they are still robbing us blind .

        i try not to use shell or bp now becuase of this .

        i try and go to morrisons or asda . i think more people should follow if they ont already

          It doesnt really matter if you go to the smaller retailers in protest cos they get their fuel from the big guns anyway.

          Where I live there are 2 petrol stations approx 2 miles between them and there is a difference of 10p per litre. Thats not the suppliers fault...its the actual retailer in the petrol station who is stitching you up.

            yeah i know the big guns still get the money but it also means im putting a small dent in there profits . all be it very small but still .

            i also know they make most of there money from all the other stuff the sell , all the sweets and things so im also hitting them there . not much as i said but it makes me feel better .

              I reckon when petrol prices fell ie diesal was 95p a litre the pertrol stations had log waits as most were filling there tanks to the top. The petrol companies got wind of this and thougt - petrol is 2 cheap lets put it backup a few pence. supply and demand. thats what sets prices.
              lets all leave the cars less and walk more. how often do we drive less than 1/2 a mile

                Nice thougt but I will give it a miss. TBH...if the bus stop or train station was next door to me I would still take the car, it is not laziness just more convienient.

                  200+% tax in UK don't help you much.

                  Lets break it down a bit.

                  Vat 15%

                  Fuel 90p

                  90*0.15=13.5

                  Vat = 13.5p*

                  90-13.5=76.5

                  Fuel now at 76.5 pence per litre.

                  Duty = 50.35 pence per litre**

                  76.5-50.35=26.15

                  Fuel now at 26.15 pence per litre.

                  Buy a push iron

                  Taking your ?1.30p ppl and doing same.
                  vat=16.96
                  duty=50.35
                  fuel price=62.69ppl.

                  Price of fuel has fallen about 60%

                  *On fuel you pay VAT on Duty tax on fuel as well as on the fuel it's self. Double tax.

                    Its not about the raw price of fuel before tax is added though.

                    Using your figures of 130p and 90p.

                    The price out of my pocket has dropped approx 30% whereas you have rightly shown it has dropped 60% in raw prices so we are being stitched up.

                        Both the government and fuel producers are robbing bast*rds , just one look at the oil companies profits and the governments revenue rake off tell it's own story.

                        The government encouraged motorists to drive diesels 15yrs ago , when diesel was 10-15p per litre cheaper than petrol and hailed by them as cheaper to refine and more economical to use and more eviromentally friendly to burn.
                        When many moved to diesel cars , they bought less fuel , due to them being more economical and diesel cheaper to buy .
                        The goverments answer to all this eviromental awareness by the motorist , was to realise how much revenue they were losing , so they banged up the price of diesel in subtle stages to 10p a litre above Petrol . !
                        Robbing Basta*ds !!!

                              It is down to the big business man at each reseller. Nearly everyone needs petrol for some reason car/bike and they no that. If petrol was 1.50 per litre 90% of people would still go out and buy it. Money money is what it is odwn to plain and simple. Petrol does not need to be a commodity that is priced for customer satisifaction, if you dont have a car you get a bus/taxi they run on fuel, so if more people get the bus/taxi more fuel is used so the companies still make money either way. They do not care about the consumer.
                              Everyone sees oil on its last legs with more effective methods been developed everyday and it running dry. So even if oil companies are selling it cheap the ressellers are making as much money as possible, as that revenue stream will dry up soon like the wells.
                              In this current financial climate all the money you can get is good,
