thinking of heading down to york in early april for a few days anyone know of any decent hotels or b&bs close to the centre. thanks in advance

Me and my lad went last sunday, its years since i last went.
Never stopped in York as its so close, but i don't think you can go wrong with a Premier Travel Inn, i know there's one in the centre somewhere.

Yes, stayed in The Alhambra Court Hotel, it's about 5mins walk from the Minster. Great location for access to the nightlife, but quite enough to get a good kip. Would recommend it.
