    Useless GP's

For the last 2 weeks I've been fighting a really bad chest infection, or so I thought.
After 2 courses of antibiotics I was still getting severe chest pain and it felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest,
so yesterday I went back to the docs still feeling like shit, but my GP wasn't in and I had to see a locum.
He was much more concerned and sent me to A&E immediately, and I'm glad he did,
it turns out I've got a pneumothorax, otherwise known as a collapsed lung, and have been admitted into hospital to get fixed.
my useless ~~~~ing GP is going to get the biggest bolocking he's ever had when I get out, and then I'm going to find a new doctor.

There are a lot of really shite GP's who completely misdiagnose, they're supposed to be experts, patients have even died as a result as the problem was worse than diagnosed, it's pathetic, the Boots Web MD app could do a better job than them. Take it easy & hope you get well soon mate.

That's pretty heavy duty mate and a wish you a speedy recovery..

I have been at war with my local health centre for the past couple of years and i know how angry you feel.
My local health centre seem obsessed with me attending clinics even though my health has never been better, but when i went with a bad chest infection they seemed hell bent on doing nothing.

She even asked me what i thought might be wrong with me,,, a thought that was her job.
A looked at her and said, "if one of my customers came to me with a humped laptop and i said, what do you thinks wrong with it, they would probably think a was a type 1 nutter".
She then told me she was reluctant to give out antibiotics as they should be a last resort..
A told her that after 4 weeks suffering and using 2 full inhalers that maybe an antibiotic was required to shift it..

A honestly think some doctors are at the wind up these days mate and got their certificates out of a lucky bag..

Pneumothorax, I suffered this several times when I was younger.
So I suppose you are connected up like a brewing kit ? or is it just bed rest and physio ?
Are you over 6ft tall and aged between 16 and 25 ?
That apparently is the main group that are susceptible to a collapsed lung.
Anyway, I hope you have a quick recovery.

(Shipman) if you ask me he had more then home visits, patients were giving shipman money and properties to be killed?

I think you need to stop sniffing sugar and maybe you should go see a doctor as you worry me sometimes

Unfortunately the main way GP's diagnose is using a fairly simple algorithm based on symptoms and likelyhood. For any given set of symptoms they will nearly always initially diagnose what they think is the most likely cause and treat. If you then go back later unchanged, they simply move on to the next most likely etc......

Agreed the Web based 'expert' program could possibly do a similar job but for the fact that a large number of patients seem very uncertain about their own symptoms.

I can't complain about my doctor, if not for him I'd be dead.

I've mentioned this before so I'll be brief....

Pain in leg, got worse over the day, had to elivate it to ease the pain.

Went to A&E. Doctor said I had an infection in varicose veins & gave me anti-biotics with instructions to go & see my GP in a week if not better.

                              Varicose veins!!! At 26!!!

Week later my leg has swollen & very painful.

GP a bit worried, sends my to acute admissions for a scan for DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis).

I'm there 4 hours before a doctor prods & pokes my leg. Makes me walk around. It's not a DVT & sends me home with some ibuprofen.

A week later I'm back at the Docs as I can't walk & my trouser leg is acting like tubi-grip around my swollen calf.
He sends me straight to medical physics for a scan.

They find 2 blood clots in my leg. The smaller was a break away piece. If it had gone up, instead of down I'd be dead.
If I never got the scan, I'd be dead.

I've a lot to be thankful for with my GP.

                              Getting back on track...

Everyone should watch the medical programes on Tv. We play guess the condition when Embarrassing Bodies is on. After some 20 years of various medical series on as many chanels...I'm pretty good at playing doctor. Just need one of those Benny Hill nurses now

tshirtman, I'll not send you any wishes for good health. I know you'll be back with tales to tell of blind old men pi$$ing into paper pots in the middle of the shared room during visiting time.
