Google TV ... Anyone using it for slingplayer ?

We currently have a Sony Bravia smart Tv, it has the usual crap on it like netflix etc. What i really wnat is Slingplayer on my TV without lashing out on either a slingcatcher or a new TV.
Now i run Slingplayer on my Mobile devices to be able to connect to different remote slingboxes and it works very well indeed.
I have seen many devices that connect to your TV on ebay that support the andriod ( now play ) markerplace, and this is where you download the slingplayer app. This seems like a ideal solution for my next project, but i am not sure if they actually support the slingplayer app, and mre to the point are they any good ?? I know there are devices out there which are supported by Sling Media, and they recommend a few ( Boxee, logitech, WDTV ) different ones, but they seem expensive as i will only use them for Slingplayer. I have seen some devices for about ?40 and i am wondering if anyone has used such a item for slinglayer and do you ger full HD screen etc from them ??? Cheers

Unfortunately, slingbox stopped producing sling catcher a few years ago, the last one I saw recently advertised on eb*y was ?500!

I too have looked for a replacement slingcatcher but I think that now slingbox is echostar, any device can only connect via the sling website, I dont think the boxes you mention can can do that.

Maybe you could use your phone with the sling app as a slingplayer using the HDMI cable

I have a jailbroken apple tv 2. I love it, with firecore it is a wonderful way to stream media from your mac/pc. Also using xbmc you can stream from dreamboxes etc and you can get a slingbox plugin. Definitely worth getting if you have an iphone or ipad 'cos airplay works wonderfully.

However I love firecore I'm not a big fan of XBMC so if you can get it natively from some type of appstore that would probably be easier.

          Hi ITS A SCAM !,

Thanks for the info, I have a Slingbox Pro HD which I can view on the laptop using the slingplayer download so the alternative boxes would probably work ok with that.

I also have an HDS 600 slingbox which is not recognised by slingplayer so I have to login to sling first, and view directly via their website.

This is why I thought the alternative boxes would not work as they would not be able to login to sling.

It seems daft to me that sling stopped making its slingcatcher a few years ago as that was so easy to use.

I will check the sling website as you suggest

          cheers,
          barryt
