    Point Of Sale

Any suggestions to a free or cheap POS setup ????

Been asked to help a m8 out who runs a couple of shops, currently all is done manually with no stock database, hand written reciepts etc!!

So far I have googled that OpenBravo is a half decent free POS software setup, so thinking about setting that up for him with a cheap PC, Barcode scanner, thermal printer, touch screen monitor etc and sql database on his web server.

Would be nice if I can link up summat for online sales (like Amazon, or OsCommerce etc).

They had a company come round to offer to setup such a system but would cost around ?80 a week with a min 12 month contract, so 4 grand sounds very expensive for a year.

Anyone else here tried to setup such a system that can offer advice please?

I've been looking at PHP-POS after a friend reccomended it.

Pricing looks good for a small business with one checkout.

They will host all data for $29 per month. Or you can buy a single license for $99. This would mean all data is stored on the PC & you get one year of updates & support. But I'm pretty sure that after the year the software continues to work.

If it's a new setup you should be able to claim the tax back (if applied on UK side) for the single license. Even after converting to GBP you're only looking at ?62
