    RAC Driver rip off?.

I had a call from a friend of mine few days back and he told me that when he called RAC to rescue my broken car on the motorway he told me that the RAC man said he put petrol in the tank therefore they will not help him to toe the car to his home destination.

The rescue man said that he will take the car to his home destination if the driver will become member of RAC there and then, and not the owner of the car.

Eventually he decided to become RAC member and they toed the car to his destination, next day we had a look at the car and found out it was the big-end bearing broken and the RAC driver lied to him about the petrol in the tank.

What I want to know for instant if some one did put petrol in a diesel engine, can the RAC driver got the rights to refuse help to the member of the RAC???

      Hi

I dont think he can refuse unless something has changed in last couple of years.

I did a similar thing a couple of years ago put unleaded when it should have been diesel. Started smoking and came to a stop on the carriageway then just would not start.

Called RAC out who came and Id told them on the phone what Id done so if that was the case wouldnt have come out would have just told me on the phone.

He did advise me though that if he towed me to a garage to drain fuel out they would charge me for it and I refused.

He told me if I can get you started better to slowly make our way to nearest fuel station and try and balance fuel ratio and he even followed me to fuel station to make sure I got there.

Ive gone on a bit but point is dont think they can/would refuse.

Rereading your post again am I right in understanding that it was your car and you are the member and your friend wasnt.

If thats the case dont you have to be in the car for your membership to be valid.

      Regards

They are not suppose to refuse to help if your vehicle has deferent fuel in the tank.

Didn?t do what they suppose to do on that occasion instead the RAC man lied..
                            Not to be trusted bast***d.

I will have a word with the manager what he has to say about that.

We would prefer the RAC customer service to comment on dk.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                            Read this.. Fuel Patrol

Put petrol in a diesel? Diesel in a petrol? Don't Panic. Call us now.

Every year around 150,000* drivers put the wrong fuel in their car.

If you're one of them we can help. Driving your car after filling up with the wrong fuel can cause catastrophic damage to your engine - as much as ?5,000* worth in the worst cases.

If you've put the wrong fuel in you don't need to panic, you just need to call us.
? We aim to be with you in 45 minutes on average
? RAC fully qualified and trained technicians
                            ? Appointment-based service also available
What if you've put the wrong fuel in your vehicle?
? Do not start the engine or turn on the ignition, this can circulate the contaminated fuel around your fuel system and increase the risks of potential damage
? If you've done either of the above, call RAC as soon as possib e.

Time is a critical factor when the wrong fuel is in your vehicle system and it needs removal and flushing through ASAP
