To me it's just another tablet, not an e reader.
Battery life on the fire is 8.5 hours.
Battery life on my kindle 4 is around 4 weeks.
I know which I prefer.Canker

Would have to agree its just another tablet ... these days i use a kobo for reading roughly get 2 weeks out of 1 charge. For ?50 was a good investment.
For everything else i use my phone when away from home ... gets a good 3g connection just about everywhere i go so watching Tvcatchup and catching up with a few forums ect is easy enough ... playing turbofly is still addictive
We have 2 7" tablets in the house that hardly get used and thats cause of the constant need to be charged and the need to carry a bag around when taking them anywhere.
So in short give me a dedicated ereader and a mid range android phone any-day.
Hope that helps

Any of you read up on the new Kobo Glo?
Looks like a nice piece of kit. She who shouldn't be ignored broke her kindle 3 on saturday. It was like dealing with a death in the family.
I can't say much, when mine cracked I was out looking for a replacement at midnight.
But the thought had crossed my mind of giving her my Kindle & I'd pick up a Kobo Glo.
Sadly she won't wait the 13 days for the release of the Glo, & I ain't surrendering my kindle straight away.
Good ereader review

When I read the review I was very pleased to see that Kobo are sticking to making ereaders only.
They have the best customization in relation to type fonts & size of any ereader, if they continue to improve the reading experience, instead of branching into the tablet market like Kindle, they could become the top selling device based on user experience instead of marketing hype.Canker

I believe they are introducing the Kobo Arc in November mate. A 7" Android tab. When I read the review I was very pleased to see that Kobo are sticking to making ereaders only.

I do like the glo tho... more than I first thought.
My main concerns..
Does it read Mobi? as I have majority in mobi. or just epub?
Can you email a book to the Glo? like I do with kindle? I find this feature great, and can mail books from anywhere.Comment

She who broke her kindle now has a Kobo. Yes you can email books to it, not sure how, she asked me to send her some & she has them on the kobo.
The kobo actually supports more formats than the kindle.
- Books: EPUB, PDF and MOBI
- Documents: PDF
- Images: JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP and TIFF
- Text: TXT, HTML and RTF
- Comic Books: CBZ and CBR
Here's my maths view of the kobo glo (?99) vs kindle 4 (?69) in words...
The kobo glo has a faster processor, expandable memory, touch screen, higher resolution, the same battery life & a glow screen for reading in the dark.
You can compare it to the kindle touch as well at ?109 for the wifi version.Canker
