Liverpool F.C. was founded after a dispute between Everton and John Houlding, the leaseholder of Anfield, over rent. Houlding purchased Anfield outright in 1891, proposing an increase in the rent from ?100 to ?250 per year. Everton who had been playing at Anfield for seven years refused to meet his demands and moved to a new stadium in Goodison Park.[1] Liverpool F.C. was founded by Houlding on 15 March 1892 to play at the vacated Anfield. The original name was to be Everton F.C. and Athletic Grounds, Ltd., or Everton Athletic for short, but it was changed to Liverpool F.C. when The Football Association refused to recognise the team as Everton.[2]

Now this club he had just FORMED had not played football before. He named this club ,Liverpool and signed some players and they BEGAN to play football for this brand new club that had just been formed. Is that any clearer

Oh and BTW The Beatles started off as the Quarrymen moving onto The Silver Beatles before finally dropping the silver part to become The Beatles.

everton had already moved on m8 he wanted to create a new everton not keep the same name m8 everton were not owned by john houlding he was the landlord of anfield he applied for a new team to play at anfield called EVERTON FC AND ATHLETIC GROUNDS nothing to do with everton fc

that was lennon and mccartneys first band, when they joined with george harrison and pete best, they were known as the silver beatles.

on 26th of January 1892 Houlding tried to form a 'new' Everton: The "Everton Football Club and Athletic Grounds Company plc" was registered in London on that date and as the 'old' Everton club was not registered as a plc Houlding had hoped to perform a weird "takeover" of Everton; stealing the name of the club in a legal way. But a meeting at the Football Council on 4th of February 1892 ruled that it could not approve membership of a new club with the same name as an existing member!

i think what red is getting at is that the founder of your club wanted it to be called everton

when george harrison joined they were still the quarrymen but i take your point krypton while i cant quite agree with it as lennon an mcartney were the beatles along with george harrison pete best was a just a bit part drummer

but while i think lennon an mcartney were both great i take your point also mcartney does seem to be overlooked compared to lennon but in my book they both done great things and for me john is more popular because he died so he gets looked at differently as all dead people
