My story starts in the ages of the play station. Note, not the ps1 or what ever you young 'uns call it. Play Station. These where the days of ?5+ blank CD's(each) and SCSI writers that failed if you walked to close to them and cost a small mortgage to own. Still remember how much it cost me. ?449 for scsi, ?642 for CD burner. Was no 1x 2x 4x crap on it. Back then it just burnt discs if you where lucky :P
I had a nice contact I could get my CD's off in bulk at a 25% reduction as long as i supplied him with my latest stuff (he supplied his own CD's) also had another contact that worked in a video(yeah Video, they where like tapes(magnetic strip on 2 wheels for err. best google it) but bigger) rental store that moving into the Game rental side. So had access to everything i needed. Also i was young and needed more beer money then i had.
I would get the latest Play Station games on monday, Take them home. Make 3 copies of each. Return games + 1 copy to dude in Video rental shop then take 1 of each to my disc supplier and use 1 for a master copy for me.
From the master copy I would make copies to sell. At ?10 a throw. I did at the time for someone of my age and income make a small fortune and put it to good use drinking it up the wall :P
Then I stopped selling. After I realised the hardware i had at the time took up more space and would give me a fairly long stay at her majastys pleasure I decided to stop. From then i have never sold anything I shouldn't.
Before you judge me for selling bare a few things in mind. The internet was just very young. Online downloading constisted of dialing into a BBS and from there getting access to files you wanted. Pirate movies where mostly badly copies of copies of copies on video(see above) in black and white and green sometimes and often darker then black its self.
Good times.
I do buy stuff, CD's, DVD's and so on, am one of these if I like it I buy it. If I hate it am glad I warezed it and saved myself some cash.
