Yes, get an old sim and see if they call, I think they will.
I'd also open up a Post Office savings account, ready for when they ask for your bank details. You can tell them you don't have a bank account but you do have the Post Office account.
That way in the entirely unlikely event of it being true you have an account to accept the money !
Although, if the unlikely did ever happen and money went into the account then you would probably find youself under investigation by the Police and HMRC to check that you were not money laundering the proceeds of crime.
