What was the point joining the EU in the first place???

If UK tax and VAT should be same as EU then no 1 will want to travel for cheap stuff.
Tools owned: Hammer, Chisel, Crowbar, Punch, Chainsaw, Cutter and Brain!!!

Did you know People will question all the good things they hear about you but believe all the bad without a second thought.

How i see it is that if you are making a one off yearly trip and bring back loads then you can argue the toss about personel consumption

if you are making repeated trips to say belgium like once a month and bringing a car full of the stuff every week your on very dodgy ground

as been posted earlier in the thread it also depends on what mood customs officers may be in too

just had a read and although guidelines are different to what they were there is no limit on ciggies

EUROPA - Travelling in Europe - Shopping

As an EU citizen you can do as much shopping as you want in all EU countries. Check the guide levels for tobacco and alcohol, VAT rates, rules on endangered species, meat and dairy products and what the EU is doing to protect consumers.

              Within the EU

              Download (flv)
There are no limits on what you can buy and take with you when you travel between EU countries, as long as it is for personal use and not for resale. Taxes (VAT and excise duties) are included in the price you pay and no further payment of tax can be due in any other EU country.
              Tobacco and alcohol
To determine whether tobacco and alcohol are for personal use, each country can set guide levels. If you carry a larger quantity of these goods, you may be questioned to check that you have no commercial intent. The guide levels may not be lower than:
              800 cigarettes
              400 cigarillos
              200 cigars
              1 kg of tobacco
              10 litres of spirits
20 litres of fortified wine (such as port or sherry)
90 litres of wine (of which, a maximum of 60 litres of sparkling wine)
              110 litres of beer

so basically you may be questoned if you bring more than this. So one off trips really shouldnt cause concern

If there is four of you you can quadruple the limit anyway

Well except if you try carry 1.5 ton of lager in a SWB For Transit. Then the police stop you on the A1 as you're travelling up, weigh the van, make you take 1/2 ton out and sit at the side of the road with it, while the driver takes the other ton back, and returns. Of course they bust the driver for being over the weight limit - serves them right for overloading the van had to relay that one, wasn't me
My master plan is to live forever..... going to plan so far
Despite the cost of living, it's still very popular.

I had a mate used to go to spain then travel over border to gibralter post cigs and come back

they are much much cheaper there but i think you can legally only have 200

he then met up with a chap who lived there and posted him a few boxes full of sleeves a week

the odd box got nobbled but he still made a good whack

not sure if he still does it not seen him for a while
