    The hobbit an unexpected journey

After the lord of the rings trilogy I wasn't sure wether or not to go and see the hobbit. Eventually I decided to go and now I'm very glad I did. Excellent film, great story and special effects. Peter Jackson has done it proud and now just like the lord of the rings movies I can't wait till next crimbo for the next instalment.

I thought it was a pile of mince. Trying to pad a small book into 3 money making films. The ending was the worst I've seen in a Movie. Without spoiling it for others why didn't they get to the hill where the movie ended using the same method from the start ? It would have saved the best part of three hours of my life and a lot of fighting.

Yeah I think he could have done it in 2 instalments but he's already stated he wanted expand on tolkiens world and add the appendices from return of the king into the movie too.

Don't think they were padding it out ... just shows how good a author Tolkien was to fit so much into so little a space.

Calling it a pile of mince is a little unjust me thinks ... Other than Radagast been pulled around on a sled by rabbits it stayed pretty true to the book ... the 3 LOFTR films could have easily been 6 films, as they cut out large portions of the books.

Guess I'm a fan and pleased to see the books been justice to. You want to see a real pile of mince and waste your life way watch the 1978 animated version:

Thank f**k they never bothered to finish it

          just my 2cents worth.

I was going to wait for this to be released on DVD. But the debates over the high frame rate pushed me to see it on the big screen.

I've not read the books, but have seen all the TOTR trilogy on the big screen & DVD.

                I loved it.

The beginning was a little slow, but being an adult I understood this was for character development (something missing from most films now).

Even if you think the story is a little drawn out, it still moves along at a steady pace. But the HFR & 3D focal lengths make this film amazing.

Critics claim it makes it look like something made for TV. I think they've missed the whole point. It looks very real.
Usually when you go to see a film, you know you're watching a film. The HFR makes everything stand out like it's right in front of you.
The 3D side is also boosted because of this clarity. There are two very memorable scenes for the 3D depth. One where Bilbo looks out of his window after closing the door on Gandalf & the other during a meeting in Rivendell.
Both had full depth perception with every part in focus. Unlike what happened with Prometheus where the focal lengths were so tight it has hard to follow the focal point.

This is the only picture I can find to show the Rivendell scene, it's nowhere near as good, it's just to show the size of the tracking..

As the tracking moves closer, you can see the water in the foreground with a view through the pillars to the meeting, than the far pillars & the mountainside in the background. Every level can be picked out & focused upon.
The first scene with Bilbo looking out of the window... It's like you're looking over his shoulder & out of a very real window.
I've seen many 3D films, but none have made me feel so connected to the world as this has.

On a different note. I was kicking myself while Radagast was on screen, could I f**k work out who the actor was.
Then I kick myself again when the credits came up & found out it was Sylvester McCoy (the 7th incarnation of The Doctor, for those who are old enough to remember)

Too many people are getting caught in the "they just wanted to make more money" trap - this will put you off anything.

Do you really think that was Peter Jackson intention?

I think, every minute added to the last Middle-Earth film (or set of films) they'll likely ever do is something to saviour.

I'm glad they've done 3 instalments. Now I've got 2 more to look forward to.
