    Sardines for dogs

Been gettin some conflicting advice so i thought id ask on dk,

I give the dog tin of mackerel or sardines now and again as a treat but over the last week or so i have decided to give her 2 tins a week, she is a fairly big dog weighs about 6 1/2 stone

I was thinking along the lines of us, give better immune system, shinier coat, help brain and joints

But some people say it will do dog harm, mecury, too much oil not good for diet ect

Dont want her to have any problems, so i am after your thoughts, my personal opinion is that twice a week should not cause any ill effects and if they did cause minor irritation to digestive system that the overall health benefits from the fish would be more beneficial than not having at all

so fish breath aside your thoughts

as long as it stops the flea bags from smelling of rank dawg and stopps them shitting in the street and stops them barking at VIP members fine, it sayd on the dawg food 'not suitable for human consumption' does it say on the tin 'do not feed to dawgs'?

ring the maker of the tin

Well im no expert, but dogs can handle a lot of stuff.
My dog bess lived to the ripe old age of 16 and she ate EVERYTHING. fish, chocolate, cats, rabbits, raw potatoes, etc etc and she died of old age, not any food related problems.

Certain people like to set themselves up as experts on dogs dietary needs, especially the ones that say "dont give dogs chocolate"
All my dogs have eaten all manner of stuff including chocolate, i had an inlaw who used to buy smarties for her dog and it outlived her and is still alive.

Christ ive even seen people saying dont give dogs BONES

She gets the odd little bit of choc not much tho

But regarding bones cant give her any small bones like turkey legs or lamb legs she just crunches them in a minute or two swallows and then is sick loads of bits of sharp bone

She is ok with a big cow bone as she cant bite through it but smaller bones no good she just obliterates them

TheRed, I think you are doing the right thing after all most things in moderation are good for you........a little bit of what you like.
I don't think it is any different for dogs, as you say your dog does not seem suitable for small bones, just a cows leg !!
Just don't get it at Tesco, neigh, neigh, neigh.

talking about fussy dogs.. my old dog bess.. we had a pet rabbit that died.. it was my sisters i think? anyway, me and redspider got it out of its cage and threw it to the dog. she turned her nose up at it so we buried it.

Later that week we had a bonfire over the spot where we barried flopsy, the next day after the ashes had been got rid of, bess dug down to where the rabbit was, it had been cooked in its grave. The smell was lovely
