Sea fishing in turkey, med coast..

Has anybody here ever tried sea fishing in Turkey along the med coast? I though I might chuck a line over the sea wall and chill out for a couple of hours of an evening when i go there next week.. I know its not everyone's cup of tea but i find quite relaxing and my wife actually enjoys it too....

The main purpose of my question is because i have read that I would need to buy a 2year licence for the two weeks I will be there, strikes me as an utter rip off but which med country doesn't rip off its tourists.... I was wondering if anybody had done this and whether it was worth just winging it (pleading ignorance) or whether the local rozzers like to come along and hassle the fishing tourists as easy targets.. From what i have read elsewhere the locals have to pay 5 lira (?2.13) for the same licence that costs an expat or a tourist 150 lira (?64).... And the locals do not even bother buying the licence apparently...

Anybody tried this or am I on my own on this one?

I've fished in Turkey, several times, With a telescopic rod from the beach,
I've never heard of having to get a licence or permit, mind you that was 4 or 5 years ago, fishing in Turkey during the day is a waste of time imo,
but i was moderately successful very early in the morning ( very early.. bout 6am) or evening time.. bout 8 or 9 pm, What part of Turkey are you going to?

I will be near Antalya... It seems a law came into force in 2006/7 which governs this matter but it is so unclear and seems to vary from province to province etc...

Ive been to Antalya but never fished, I fished in the Bitez/Gumbet area without a problem,
If you are prepared to hawl your arse outta bed at 6am to go fishing i wouldn't bother with a licence,
There is no one about at that time except a few Germans going for their early morning swim (seriously) and a few locals making their way to work.
I can't see the local plods out at that time nicking guys fishing

        But.. its up to you

cheers bud,, i don't do mornings though....

was just thinking of the occasional evening, i heard it was shite fishing during the day and that all i would catch would be sunstroke while i watched the 'roasties' lift themselves of the beach and head off for a shower and a boogie etc...

The 'roasties' usually drag themselves off about 5pm.. still a bit early to go fishing,
though you will often see locals don masks, flippers, snorkel and speargun and heading into the water to catch the "fish of the day"

Ps Dont blame you for not 'doing mornings'

Done it plenty of times off the jetty at Icmeler beach, use a collapsable rod,and fresh bread from the shop.
Just pack the hook and lob it out,guy at the hotel even barbecued what i'd caught.
Checkout the RED stickies massive amount of info and effort been put into them.
