CHEER YOURSELF UP WITH A VINDALOO

SOME LIKE IT HOT: Curries are putting a smile back on Brits faces

DEPRESSED Brits are turning to fiery curries to help cheer them up in the recession.

According to a new survey investigating the nation's takeaway habits, 92 per cent of us feel happier once we've chowed down a spicy vindaloo.

Zesty takeaways such as madras, jalfrezi and Thai red curry are helping Brits chill-out, thanks to their mix of endorphin-releasing red chilli peppers and mood-enhancing vegetables.

And as well as scorching-hot Indian food providing Brits with stress-relief, 61 per cent felt a night off cooking was enough to boost their morale.

He said: “Despite it being common knowledge that exercise increases the release of endorphins helping improve mood, not many are aware that eating certain foods, including many curries can affect us in exactly the same way, which could explain why Brits have been ordering in their droves.

“The supplementary study proves that the public are cheered up by a good curry, not least for the fact it gives hard-working Brits an evening off from cooking!”

Top 10 curries that will make you happy:

    1. Chicken/beef madras
    2. Vindaloo
    3. Thai red curry
    4. Passanda
    5. Jalfrezi
    6. Chicken tikka masala
    7. Rogan Josh
    8. Phal
    9. Mangalore chicken curry
    10. Red prawn curry
