My owd fella has just bought a new 2nd hand car , his old car still has 6 month Disability tax on it. How does he transfer over the Disability tax to the new car ?. The seller is going to keep the tax on the old car which my old chap has agreed on as part of the deal.

Not sure tbh i think it just involves a phone call and they send a new disk out -
Probably a trip to the nearest DVLA office is your best bet - since I believe the car has to be re-registered as well, from my experience of buying one that was registered as a disabled vehicle, and the subsequent nightmare of getting that changed and the tax class....My master plan is to live forever..... going to plan so far
Despite the cost of living, it's still very popular.
No good deed goes unpunished....

Once you sell the car it is no longer registered as a disability car so will not be entitled to the tax disc. Your old man will have to register the new car to qualify for a disabled tax disc. I'm not sure how well tied up the DVLA is between registered owners and the tax disc situation so I'd be wary. I'm sure if the new owner keeps the disabled disc he stands a chance of getting humped by the Police with their ANPR system.Comment

you need to send the reg doc off and get the new car reg as disabled and get the old car re reg as private, you cant trans the old tax disc as it has no fee payable so you need to tax the new car when it is changed over to disabled, best thing is to take all paperwork for both cars to the dvl a and they will do it while you are there,

If u want to put disabled tax on a car u can do it in the post office,if u want to pay and tax a car that has been on disabled tax u need to send log book off to change class off tax,and if u have disabled tax rights u should have a form to take with u to the post office.Comment
