I have used wesetrn union to send money to my brother while he was away working, and there were no banks in the country he was in. However I'd never use it to pay for any goods online, not ones that I expected to receive anyway - it would be much more productive to set the notes on fire, at least I could keep warm or use it to light my cigs as I waved it goodbye.My master plan is to live forever..... going to plan so far

Hmmm, lets see, I've received money more than once, via WU, from the USA sent to me ( I'm in the EU) from stuff I've sold. Sender was happy, lotsa paper work to fill out, to get my money, but I'm not ripping anybody off, so it went smoothly.
Overall I do think some protection exists, but I have not bought by WU, only been on the other side...best to ask first, what your rights are tho..Technomate-Dreambox-SpiderboxComment

Paypal or similar second
i wouldnt sent moneygram or western union
but you will more than likely receive goods but you have no protection if the order is short or shoddy its tough
use dhgate if buying from china its like ebay but pretty safe and does not give supplier the money until its delivered and your satisfied, although it does involve a resolution which they decide but its usually fair
