    New kitten

So I'm getting a new kitten in a few weeks when she's 8 weeks old. Apart from buying a good scratch post, is there anything else I can do to stop her from clawing my furniture.

    Get her stuffed?!

There are sprays that might help, just don't know what they're called.

Use catnip on the scratch post.

      Play with it!

Excess energy and boredom are what causes the damage!
If you have to leave it in the house alone, i recommend putting it in a secure - damage proof room!

try a water pistol - when she goes to scratch furniture squirt her, only take a few times for her to stop

Hmmm what's catnip, the kitten will be allowed outside the house when old enough so do you think that will help any. I'm not too bothered about it, its the missus- she's paranoid.

sorry m8,there is no cure or real remedy,to have the pet you will have to accept the problems they bring,i suppose you could paint your walls instead of papering them cos the the bassads will destroy them in no time,do not have blinds on your windows cos they will end up covered in fur, basically accept destruction is the norm. on the plus side they are enormous fun and loving companions.my cat passed away at xmas at 18 years of age and I do miss the destructive little sod,a fortune in vet bills but worth every penny,do have it vaccinated against cat flu and try to train it to come indoors at night ,you can buy cat claw covers but they appear cruel if the cat is going to come into contact with other cats as it will not be able to defend itself.

You're missing a treat if you don't try it at least once. A friend has 3 cats, the dominant male is hilarious when he gets cat nip.

He rolls onto his back while on a perch, eyes dilated, drooling... then becomes hyperactive. It's like watching a kid on a sugar rush.
