Moving phone point... is it hard?

When I got BT Infinity installed they have to put it on the first telephone point, which in my case is in my girls bedroom upstairs.

However I don't want all them wires up there as the little one is starting to be a nightmare and touch everything.

Is it possible to move that main point to down stairs behind my tv, that way the router can go there and TV, DVD player and sky box can all be connected to the router too.

The line from the BT line is attached to the wall, it then goes into the loft, so I'm thinking intercept it in the loft somewhere and bypass the the one in the bedroom, extend the cable somehow to go down the wall outside and into the house behind tv.

    cheers

straight foward mate. simply run some cable from that switch upstairs which is the master switch then put a slave one in downstairs. does the same job. a special punch down tool is needed to connect the wires to the socket mate but you can pick one of these up in toolstation/screwfix etc.

I do loads of these on a regular basis.

or you can connect the wires removing the master socket upstair and put it downstair. entirely your choice

cheers bud, I thought the Bt infinity had to be conneted to the master ( first ) point or is that just a gimmick?

What would be the best connector to extend the wires downstairs?

What to do mate is just join the cable before the master tel socket run new cable downstair then put the master switch back on.

Not 100% sure about it having to run of the master socket to be honest.

Use these jelly crimps to join the wire

That's what I was hoping to do mate. On closer inspection of the socket there is 2 cables in it. A black one and a white one. I presume the black one is Internet and the white phone line? So then it would be a case of extending both cables?

Yes just run both cables to a master switch downstair. Take a pic of the master box wires before you rip the socket out and that way your easy putting it back.

We've just had sky installed and the documentation said the router has to go into the master or main socket. Ie the point where the outside cable comes into the house. We have a slave socket close to the sky box but the router will only work in the master socket.
