FISHING ADVICE... River Tweed Peebles Scotland

I'm taking my son camping up the north border near peebles in scotland ( river tweed ) for the weekend and wanted to do a little bit fishing.....

Thing is I cant fly fish and only have lots of sea fishing equipment, can I just use floats with thin 5lb line and use brownies as bait or is there some sort of pellets I can use....

I dont want to spend money as its only a one off and its just for a bit of fun but it would be nice if he caught a fish....

Never fished that river mate but round Wales I take maggots, small hooks 16 ish and 3 or 4 pound main line with a small running ledger, always does the job for me, trout an grayling that is, or as you say a little float should be OK, prob a bit more action for Him then if the river runs he will need to re cast every so often as the float will trot,
    good luck mate

The tweed is a classic Salmon and seatrout water mate .. not sure that you can get a day ticket for it .. (without paying a whole lot that is ) ..

I went on of an evening with a net or a gaff in my younger days .. did not require a permit ..

My mistake you can get day tickets .. http://www.peeblesshiretroutfishing.co.uk/

Cheers for the info, Ive just phoned the local tackle shop and there gonna give me 2 small rods and a little kit for ?30 so cant complain will probably only use them once.

Hopefully the bairn will catch something small he hates sea fishing and wont come with me but he might when hes older.

        Cheers for the input.
