    Puppy Crate..

Ive just got a little Jack Russel puppy... arrrrr...

At night he sleeps in a large puppy crate in the kitchen..

I put him out for a pee / dump just before bed time..

In his crate are his water / food bowls, two toys and a covered hot water bottle inside his bed, ive also placed a ticking clock and a radio on low by his crate and there is a soft lamp on all night..

His first night was bad, but its getting better..

Last night he had a pee in his crate, i must have not heard him whine quick enough..

Should i be religously taking him out every 2 hours through the night or will he whine when he wants to go out..??

I've moved on to the sofa so i can hear him better from the kitchen..

    Thanks for any help

    religiously.

wether he goes or not is beside the point, pups need a structured routine and wont really whine when they need the toilet in the early stages (they dont know shitting in the house is all that bad yet)

just keep on trucking with him and eventualy he'll get the gyst and when he needs to go he'll start walking to the door.

Also remember dogs have no real short term memory, if they shit on the floor after a few moments theyre like "FOR WHO IS THIS BELONGS!?!?" so smacking him or rubbing his nose in it doesnt do any good.

they respond better to treats for doing something right (mostly because your giving them attention at the right time)
He who laughs last thinks slowest.

i too had jack russell puppy 12 month ago it was the first time i had used a crate, i had thought in the past arrr thats cruel. No more though, it the best way to keep a dog, no more mess, no more rip up house. only time she whine is when she wants to go out to toilet. Hopefully these links i'm posting will work for you as i learnt alot from them.

awww wot a gorgeous lil pup Reebok is

I had a Jack Russell years ago, I also kept him in the kitchen but I didn't get up every 2 hours to take him out.

I left a litter tray, which the dog used if it did wake up through the night, but we always took him out very late at night and first thing in the morning, so at the most he was alone for 5 hours at night.

Sorry I thought the heading was Pumpy crate. I was expecting talk of beer.

I think the litter tray is a good idea. Gradually shift it toward the back door then put it outside and the pup will whine to get to the tray.

yea thats what i did, I only moved it a few inches at a time and the pup followed it.

Jack Russells, best dogs in the world, apart from Scooby Doo.

We used to just lay old newspapers on the kitchen floor at night, we found that ours quite liked the Star.
The good thing is that pups don't generally take too long in getting house trained.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I do not know the answer.

Ive got a 12 month old JR sim to urs ops, i too kept him in a cage at night in the kitchen, he didnt like it but after about a week he was fine. Best dog i have ever had so funny, icant go anywhere without him, soon as i pick my keys up he's at the front door, as i type this post he is lying across my shoulders like a pillow, ops you will have loads of laughs with yours, just make sure he/she has lots of toys and chews so it wont attack the furniture.

                              THE TRUTH
                              The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.
