Last year I transferred my landline from BT to TalkTalk, the deal was fantastic.
- Free unlimited broadband
- ?4.00 monthly for something called 'call booster' to cover the anytime free call.
- You get ?30.00 welcome bonus to cover your line transfer charges
- Monthly line rental ?12.00
This is the best bit, your monthly flat rate will be ?16.00 (?4.00 + ?12.00). If you pay ?124.00 in advance you get ?60 off and you don't pay another penny the whole year, you will need to give them direct debit for any other charges you may incur such as international calls or calls made to mobiles.
So every month they email their bill and I find that they charged me between ?14.00 to ?23.00 for calls they claim are made to mobiles despite the facts that we don't call mobiles from our landline but we do make miss call in very rare occasions.
TalkTalk actually charge for such miss calls and calls answered by answering machines, if a mobile or landline is busy we get charged 20p each call.
When our first year was over, their first bill was ?39.00 for the first month then the following month they sent a letter explaining the changes to our service from October 2013
- line rental will be ?17.50 (?5.00 extra)
- broadband will no longer be free
- booster will be ?7.50 (nearly double)
- plus whatever they would charge for the alleged miss call charges.
That's what you may call twisting a customer's arm.
