the wife has 2 dentists ,private one ?19 a month ,and nhs one ,now the problem is she has one cracked crown at the front ,it would be ideal to replace two so that match at the front ,now the private one quoted ,?150 per tooth ,total ,?300 ,,,now the nhs dentist said they don't replace crowns ,because it's cosmetic ,however he will do it privately for ?350-?400 per tooth ,,anyone know if the nhs dentist is within their right's to refuse and to offer privately ?

the front crowns will be replaced on the nhs ive had it done, and i was told by my nhs dentist few months ago that a a couple of the crowns on my back teeth need replacing, my point is the back teeth are the bottom of the list if you know what i mean, hes trying to pull a fast one m8, give these a ring Dental Complaints Service , the fat en had probs once with her dentist, i mentioned the gdc and she got a full refund, it was 700 tokens n aw.

I know this don't really help, but the NHS dentists they got upset (dont we all) about some new government / NHS rule (cant remember what is was) a few years back and they don't seem well lets say enthusiastic about the NHS patients, my dentist said i had a crack below the gum line and it needed to come out, this was at a check up, i didn't even know I had one (crack) in the tooth, so i said it don't hurt why would i want it taking out, he then changed his tune a bit he said well i could try a crown, he had to grind the tooth well down, but its been great for a good 6 to 7 years, touch wood.

I am lost hear, wife is paying ?19 a month for private dentist and when she need help they are asking for more money for treatment so whats the point having private insurance???

she tells me the work from the private dentist is free ,but the lab who makes the crowns has fee's to pay,so they have to be paid as well ..

I think your being taken to the cleaners.. cancel the insurance its not worth the paper its printed on.. As above report the nhs dentist..

nhs dentists charge in 3 bands -

1st is for check up, x ray, clean n polish, etc etc.. is ?18 quid

2nd is for fillings, extractions etc is ?49 quid

3rd is for crowns, dentures etc and costs ?218

these bands are for full treatments and should only be paid once for full course of treatment

Thing that scares me about the NHS dentist / doctors, my mates a bit full on sometimes, he was at the hospital and the nurse said the doctor you are seeing he,s a good doctor so he said back tongue in cheek, so your telling me some doctors / surgeons are not good. (well we knew that already but it made me chuckle)

The GDC is not able to provide guidance on which services you are entitled to under the National Health Service as this is dealt with by the NHS. The following page on the NHS website explains which treatments are available on the NHS and what is available under each of their price bands.
