Why on earth give presents on Christmas Eve to your family as well as on Christmas Day? How much do they want?

Christmas Eve Hampers were traditionally given to the poor by those who were better off. The tradition died out with the Welfare State.
He who laughs last probably didn't get the joke.

I'm poor any better off Dk'ers here (I'm only middle class) --The welfare state is almost dismantled now, possibly be completed by Christmas?

Complete myth. No one in this country is really poor anymore.

I've met people on benefits who'd think they were poor if they didn't have Sky and a 42in flat
                  screen to watch it on.

A return to the pre 1948 days would give them a hell of a reality check.

(Let's not get off- topic though.)
