It won't give out your number unless you say so.
If someone wants your number, they send you a text to ask your permission to give out your number plus it states on the site they don't have childrens' numbers

i suspect a LOT of BOAB SMITHS on that call register.

Ive got 3 mobiles, 1 completely unregistered, 2 completly falsified.
My home phone is registered to me, my mobiles are anonymous.

Does 2 polystyrene cups and a piece of string count.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I do not know the answer.

You may already have heard about this but early next week all UK mobiles will be on a directory which will mean that anyone will be able to access your numbers. It’s easy to unsubscribe but it must be done before the beginning of next week to make sure that you are ex-directory. You may want to suggest it to all your friends and family who have UK mobiles or they could be swamped by unsolicited messages and calls. Removal is recommended by the BBC - see link below.

BBC NEWS | Programmes | Working Lunch | Mobile phone directory to launch

To remove your number click on the link below, you need your mobile phone with you to do this as they text you a code

              1, http://www.118800.co.uk

2, Click on ‘Ex Directory’ at top right hand side of page, from there it’s straight forward.

i think its a disgrace and invasion of privacy...people like mobiles as there is or was no phone book for them, now thats all gone, and no doubt loads of people wont know that you can opt out and will end up getting loads of telemarketing calls etc

Trust you(or Mrs Pumpy) to be up to date. In my day it was string and tin cans.
