Theres no wonder people stay on the dole

Just been working out what i have to do to earn a crust as i have got a saturday job fixing computers
    But there is a catch

As you can see by the figures i have to work 10 hrs just to beat the dole amount because of the way the system works.
they give you a fiver then you loose pound for pound as you earn

The hours btw is 8 on the left to 16hrs on the right

And if i go over 16 hrs i get booted off Jobseekers and i cant claim working tax credit unless im over 30 hrs

    unbelievable ;o(

you have your pride in not claiming benefit - to me that is priceless. to have the opinion its ok NOT to work is wrong. thankfully system is slowly catching up with the spongers in society (this is NOT a dig at you in any way)

what you dont say is how much housing benefit and counci tax benefit you are probablly receiving as its not just jsa you will be getting. (apologies in advance if you do not receive these)

i was unemployed for 10 months last year and it was awful. so demoralising. i dont know how people can go for years and years and not work. id make them work for their benefit to get them aff their lazy arses!!

Eh!... I can't understand that graph.
What exactly are you trying to say???
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I do not know the answer.

you wont live off working less than 16hrs a week and claimimg dole.. if your happy on the poverty line then this is a good option..

If you like food other than ASDA smart price then get a job..

The dole doesnt pay, unless you like having cock all money and chances in life

Lets just clear up this misconception
I live of just dole atm and i survive thats all.

Happy living on the breadline, abosolutly NOT i am just commenting about the situation when ive managed to find a small amount of work in the miserable town i live in. and no matter how i work it the dole still has the power over me, unless i chance it on one day a week and risk going down..

So dont assume you know me or my circumstances plz, all the time i have been unemployed since i was laid off i have been at college training to be a teacher and i passed my first certificate of teaching a few days ago.

So all the while ive been off ive been trying my hardest to get a job, but there has been 3800 ish laid off round here so every vacancy is massivly overpoplated, rest assured i will get one eventually

sorry if i've upset you mate, that wasnt my intent..

I was on the dole for a while in the late 90's.. i hated it.. no money, low self esteem, the works..

i just despise those who are happy to sit on their arse and claim everything going whilst dealing in all sorts of shade on the side.. i know this isnt you

            Good luck with your jobsearch

well done chim on passing your exams. i was doing job searches for peeps today and there were quite a few teaching jobs. cant remember what area that was though. if you work 30 hrs and earn less than ?13000 claim tax credits. i know its not easy on jsa but lots are on it as they are getting an absolute fortune in housing benefit. i dont have a mortgage for ?500 a month as i cant afford it and i dont see why we should pay housing benefit of ?500 a month for someone who doesnt work etc. i constantly have them on the phone and its not jsa they are interested in its housing and council tax benefit.

the dwp seem to be one of the few increasing their staff count and the advertise all the time. its no the best job in the world but the T&C's are good

Ive got a few friends who are teachers, 2 are still unemployed and 3 relocated (and got their relocation bonus on top of a steady job)

Ones constantly complaining that the market is completely oversaturated in terms of quality teachig posts.
Seems unless your willing to relocate then you basicly get a years post for training and slung on the heap.

Nursing is back on the increase though (i know a few nurses too)

The job market isnt that bad though, ive been looking for jobs lately and found a good few that no one else seems to want, care work (ie wiping arses) working for a dump (might have needed a couple of licenses for plant forklifts and the like but im sure training was offered)

There are loads of dirty jobs available (the kind of work i start looking for first because everyone else sems to think they're above it) However ive always found that employers take me more seriously when they seem my CV and the reams of shitty, dirty smelly jobs ive done. as opposed to my brother whos CV shows time served engineer, laid off, sat on the dole.

Turn your hand to anything, honestly, ive had some f the worst jobs on the planet, but the people ive met through them are awesome, ive made some really good friends from doing things that i swore i would never do when i left school.

U tried finding work these days lanie??, working for the taxpayer you will be safe anyway(no offence). iv recently been off 9 weeks couldnt get nothing, took no pride in claiming jobseekers but had no option. couldnt believe that they wont give you any finacial backing unless you have been on the dole longer than 6 months.

yes i tried finding work. did you read in my post that i was out of work for 10 months last year?? it wasnt easy but there were quite a few office type jobs out there in the glasgow area. i was on incapacity benefit and there were many jobs i couldnt physically do or the hours were horrendous. (i couldnt drive then) when i left my last job i said i wanted to work in the local council or the dwp as the t&c's in these places mean more to me. luckily i passed the test for the dwp first time but i was on the waiting list for a post for 4 months.

i deal with new claims to jsa on the phone and the majority of under 25s that register for jsa to qualify for housing benefit is astonishing. i know perfectly well a lot of them are working casual and i have no objections to anyone earning a few extra quid or trying to better themselves by getting some experience etc. i do however object to them claiming housing benefit etc for vast amounts when i struggle to pay a mortgage. incidently i DID NOT claim housing benefit for the 10 months i was on incapacity benefit. i got redundancy from previous job and albeit i could have claimed housing benefit i didnt.
