The point being that the cost of buying much needed equipment or food with the aid money is much higher than you local branch of Harrods, so give a country ?10 million to buy tents and then the only place they can buy tents from charge ?100,000 per 1 man tent tent *shrug*

Anyway more should be done to help those in the UK, but this government is so hell bent on breaking up the welfare state that it won't help at all. After all they have the backing of the country at large who want to see those on benefits get less. As people get less money they have choices to make one of them being whether to eat or have a roof over their heads. This is only going to get worse, the government has created a housing bubble getting ore into debt with mortgages etc that they can't really afford. Right now the interest rate is low, watch what happens when the BOE rate rises back to 5% - more repossessions and more hardship. Bet the banks don't lose.... just people losing their homes.

And I bet it wouldn't take much digging to find out the connection between those companies and those awarding the contracts and no doubt it wouldn't take much more digging to find some politician or other with a close connection.

i agree with Gaston about the limited suppliers and 'approved ' suppliers

      OFF TOPIC:-

Here in M/C was a courier company, guy was saying he got a call to go all to the to some shit town 30 miles away, to collect a 'part' for the RAF

He gets there and it's a washer, as in coin with a hole in it, nothing exciting 10p + car damage from B&Q.

He is delivering it to 'Devon'. Nobody is autherised to buy a washer from B&Q but because other depot has it in stock
      they have to supply it.

The guy thought about sticking it in an envolope and posting it, but no he went to Devon, charged the RAF 300 Inglish pounds for it and they paid.

I agree with Garston also on the benefit situation.

Previous Tory idea's / polices has been the cause of so many problems in society. Now this elitiest Eaton bunch are spining thoughts which the country is buying into!

No wonder we have homless in 2013 but no doubt this present government will massage the figures in the same way they are with employment figures... lots of part time low paid work is hardly a positive statistic but again the message being spun is one of how their policy is working

As for the aid situation... Simple solution give MP's 100K salary stop their other buisness intrests and STOP LOBBYING!!! Aid sorted
Go for it. The future is promised to no one

In an honest and truthful society that would be the solution, but the lying, thieving, dishonest reprobate MPs (that are supposed to be representing us) would just accept the increased salary and continue using "preferred suppliers" etc and the "benefits" that it provides them.

The twits in charge are coming down just as hard on part time workers benefits. Guess they finally realised that it's the workers who take more of the welfare balance.

On mortgages, interest rates will be rising already. The twits & the bank of england have stopped easy access to cheap money for the banks. Or limited it to small business loans only. New and re-mortgages will now see a rise in the interest rates available.

Can't wait for April when the FSA deadline for banks compliance in mortgage sales comes into force. The whole market will be in turmoil. In the worst case, banks/building societies will no longer be able to sell mortgages to their customers. Only independent financial advisors & independent mortgage advisors will be able to sell them. The only loophole being that you can get one from your bank if you take no advise at all...just go by what the bank website tells you. You won't be able to ask them any questions.

            Bringing it back on track...

It's within the power of big business to put an end to anyones homeless situation if they so desire. Companies get a tax break on charitable donations. Ever wondered why so many have nominated charities? Now you know.
So if a couple of big players decide to fund a national homeless charity. Prefferbly with no ties to corporate/political figures. Every homeless person could have a roof over their head & support to get back on their own two feet (taking they still have both feet).

It's the pensioners who take the most, however the majority of them have paid for their pensions multiple times over. I dare say out of the remaining money paid out, part-time workers and those on minimum wage take the majority of the rest. It is normal taxpayers who are subsidising the profits of companies that pay minimum wage. The only way that can be stopped is if the minimum wage were made a living wage, but again if that were to happen I dare say profits would fall for companies that like to underpay their staff and they'd use that as an excuse to lobby the government not to do so.

I've been looking around today at mortgages and teh going rate seems to be at about 5%, that's with the BOE rate of 0.5%. Now what will that look like when the BOE rate is at 5 or 7%? There'll be a lot who can't afford their mortgage at that point, but again Tory governments do seem to like people to get into debt over their heads in the housing market. Wonder how many properties the Tory party itself owns and rents out? Buy 'em when people are being evicted and rent them at huge inflated rates *shrug*
