    Swimming Widths.

Anybody swimming widths at an adult fitness swim should be banned for life from any pool. The End.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I do not know the answer.

Went to the fitness swim at our local baths with Mrs P yesterday, all adults.
Why on earth do some people insist on swimming widths when everybody else is doing lengths.
There was these three women with pink rinses and one bloke getting in everybodies way. Two of the women were doing a stroke ive never ever seen before , it was some kind of special one so's as not get their hair wet.

There's probably a bloody great big notice saying 'No swimming from end to end'. Bloody senior citizens.

P.s. Can a Moderator warn me when Mrs Pumpy is about to log on?
I can't wake up Grumpy now in case I am accused of Dwarfism

There should be an attendant with a big long pole with a hook on the end to pull em out if they start doing widths.

I do all my swimming exclusively in my local loch.

I do depths (only in the summer) instead of lengths or bredths.
Swim out 20yds and then take a gulp and dive under, its only a few feet, another 20yds and it takes ages to get to the bottom, the way up your lungs are on fire and you get that scary "imma asplode" head tingling feeling.

Another 20yds and you never make it to the bottom (atleast i dont)

Then i just swim a few widths (bearing in mind its loch lomond and a length of that is 24miles) A brisk swim a few ttimes from Luss to Rowardenan and back is more than enough.
The only problem is you either need to do it at dawn or late at night in the dark due to idiots in jetskis who would happily mow you over.
Come september you get some queer looks diving off the pier at Luss wearing nowt but a pair of plum smugglers. Tourists are pansies, you should see the jaws hit the floor when you climb back out a faint shade of blue.
Truth be told though once your in for a few minuites you dont feel the cold, your body acclimatizes shortly after the sharp juddering intake of those first few breaths, as your testicles burrow deep inside in shock horror.

Always loved to swim since i was a kid and nowadays its the only real form of excercise i get.

What a great place to swim chroma, i'd have thought some kind of wet suit would be the thing to wear in the colder months.

We used to swim a couple of times a week, but that was years ago.
All my exercise revolves around cycling these days, mmmmm, well its always revolved around cycling but years ago I had time to swim too.

wet suits are for those of lesser ilk than i

I really dont feel the cold, in the supermarket i actively ask for the coldest jobs (freezers are -25c chillers are 0-4c) cause like i said i dont really feel it. The warm howerver makes me like a bear with a sore head. Cant somach it what so ever.

The only place id need a suit for is loch long at arrochar, and only then because its full of jellies, mostly round the edges so trying to get back out onto the gets you pretty heavily stung.
This as it turns out is the main reason i walk around a little of the perimeter of any loch im about to go baws deep in.

My favorite loch is the green lochan, just past Glen More lodge in Avimore. its a wierd tropical green, locals say fairies wash their stuff in it, i say copper deposits.
Whomevers right it makes yiour skin soft as a babies after a decent float around. Well worth the trip if only for the spa effet and the mindblowing scenery.

Being a Scot im lucky with the terrain, most other scots are more complacent, not giving things a second look, not realising people pay a fortne to see what we see on a daily basis. Cycling up here is second to none (although a little heavy going due to the up and downyness of the land)
We might get taxed rotten, but boy did we wind up with the room with the view.

Hey chroma, do many other peeps swim in the lochs then??? is it popular??
We've been up to Loch Etive and Awe a few times but never seen anybody swimmin in their.

When we went to Loch Awe last (4 years ago), we stopped right on the banks.
Used to get up at 5.30 every morning and have an hour walking round with the dog, those walks were absolutely brilliant, so peaceful.
Mrs P thought I was crackers, but the few hours around dawn were beautiful.

Etive is a sea loch so swiming is fairly hairy without a suit (its got a large jelly population and things with teeth)
Ive swam in Loch Awe though during my formative years.
Its not really as popular as it used to be, everyones lost their balls nowadays and figure that its a turn off for the wee nedy girls. kids have to look cool at all times, which mostly means bad haircuts and listening to music that would bring tears to a glass eye whilst discussing just how dreary life is.

That and the fact everyones got ipods, mobiles and the like that dont really do "wet" and if you leave them lying around they'll more than likely get nicked.
Thrn once your in youve got morons on jetskis to avoid as with idiots in speedboats and the like to contend with...

I dont ever take anything too valuable with me, an ipod for tunes whilst walking and a junker of a phone, i just stash them in my hat, roll all my other clothes into a ball around them, stick them in a poly bag under the nearest bush and run in the buff for the water.

Seems swimming outdoors is getting to be a dying art nowadays. Shame really cause its a whole lot of fun, sure swimming in a pool is nice but you cant beat the "WTF WAS THAT" feeling as something brushes past your leg.

Thats the exact feeling I got when those blue rinse's were swimming widths.
