i have recently become disabled after a stroke.

personal independnce entitlement has been agreed (was DLA).

what help can we apply for as we are completely in the dark here a 25 per cent reduction in council tax we will be applying for this week

first up,extremely sorry to hear of your recent health issues,appproach the citizens advice for help and remember to keep copies of all correspondence with the social as they will try to make your claim difficult

DLA usually relies on doctor’s record, they work out the percentage of your health, and payments are in three categories lower, middle, higher payments and if some one is looking after you they will also be rewarded. Wish you all the luck.

Hi Tom. The 25 % is single person entitlement. I would think if you are on benefits and depending on what other money you have coming in if any, I don't think you will pay any. Your best option is to visit the citizen advice centre and they will advise you on what you can and can't get. The dss or whatever they are called now won't tell you what your entitled to.. best bet is citizen advice. Hope you get sorted out mate and sorry to hear about your problems. Good luck

Hi Tommos43 sorry to hear about your health issues, I know a few on here have recommended CAB but most of their staff are volunteers and have a limited knowledge of things so I would advise that you contact some of the charities out there as many of them have paid full time advisors and advocates that will have specialist knowledge and have dealt with others in your position (I will list some links at the end of the post) and they will know more about PIP which has only been partially introduced.
You haven't said your age or if you were employed when this occurred, if you were employed then you should also be claiming what was ESA but they may have already done that in your PIP assessment (I don't know the ins and outs of this new system).

Just another point as gc1966 says keep copies of everything you send and receive from DWP and DLA and insist on only corresponding with them in writting, that way you will always have proof of what you have sent and what they have said, even if they phone you tell them you need it in writing, say you forget things easily if they try to say there is no need and then make a note of the time and date of the phone call................just in case.
I'm sorry to say that it is likely that at some point they will mess you around, they have some good staff but there are others that really don't care.

Just a couple of things that may save you money but you usually have to search for :-

Don't know if you were given top tier or lower tier disablement on PIP but top tier entitles you to a Mobility Car or money in lieu and also free Vehicle Tax, if it was the lower tier PIP you are now entitled to 50% off your Vehicle Tax. Details here :: Road Tax exemption - Disabled Motoring UK

There are some other things out there but you really have to search hard as very few will tell you, any more I find I will post.

Here is another site that can be of great assistance and not just for you Tommas43, it has a "Benefits Calculator" that you enter all your details on and it then advises you what you are entitled to claim, and it can be used by everyone irrespective of income just so that you can check you are getting what you are entitled to.
