Windows XP Support ends April 2014

The end of support means no longer software updates that help keep your PC secure.
Most Chinese software only work with windows XP what?s is the alternative?

XPMode also disappears at the same time. I have clone copies of my XPMOde, just in case. If they take the update site down, which they say they are going to then even a fresh install won't work unless you have a local copy of all the SP's and updates to apply after a fresh install *shrug*

As Meat would say"slightly off topic" but read somewhere that connected or not certain peoples/companys/stalkers/busybodies can see you throughyour webcam.

Some older os such as 98 etc are still downloadable and working and I would say that XP may be around for a while so long as you don't go to 'love you long time' sites.

Maybe if we are lucky when MS end support for XP then somebody else will take it over, and finally turn it into a useful OS

XPMode is a copy of Windows XP running in a window in Windows 7 oddly enough.

For those that don't *have* to use a computer for work and so not have to install MS sh*t on a computer then Linux is the WTG. It doesn't appear to have sunk into MS's head yet that the reason they're the only ones selling a proprietary operating system is that the rest of the planet saw the light and left Linux to get on with that side of things. I've been using Linux since the mid 90's and tbh it's come on in leaps and bounds over that time. Plenty of flavours out there, with some very well written software, well worth checking out as an alternative to paying out ?100 and having to have the newest fastest and all the sh*t and cost that comes with it.

What support XP has given to users?? Even with good antivirus it did not stop getting infected; mind you I found the solution is to have as much virus such as trojan horse, malware, ebola, fby, virus, etc in the computer so any one tried to get in will affect his own computer and will keep away.

On XP I used to have movie maker (a serious little piece of video editor, not brilliant, but serious) . Now, with Linux Debian and Mint in a dual boot, I have a selection of editors including open shot which is been developed for window and a 'soon' release date.
Don't get me wrong, I always had xp and would have been happy there, but I ain't forking out moolah for something else when there's so much free in linux.

I have no choice but to run a flavor of Windows to allow me to use the work VPN system from home, and some parts of the software I develop require interaction with MS Office, otherwise I'd gladly not bother. There's very little available for Windows that isn't available for Linux. As I said the smart companies got out of writing and selling O/S's some time ago. As for games, there's plenty of games on Linux, failing that there's always Steam.... and if you get really bored you can use Wine for running Windows crap.
