If the Gallery puts its works on the Internet and does not charge for viewing I don't see any problem. If, however, someone copies these works and charges for them then that might create a problem.
Wikipedia is not charging so I don't see a problem, I am sure that the legalities are a lot more complex. For example Wikipedia will be receiving money from advertising on their site and that could be construed as being paid for displaying.
Personally speaking I think if you display images or play music on the internet then that display/sound becomes available for public use. Providing it is not altered or charged for.
I can see both side too but it is too early in the morning to take a side.
