ok this has been puzzling me. how come you get keys and a fob for remote control locks on a car but not for a house? its a pain in the ass having to get yer keys oot and fiddle to get the bloody thing in the lock when you have bags. yes i can put the bags down but wouldnt it be so much easier with a wee remote thingy??

I agree entirely Lainie, in fact, I look for my remote for the house as I carry stuff from the car, then realise I haven't got remote central locking.
I believe you can get it mind, but I don't know why it aint more 'normal'.

You already can, both electromagneticaly locked and servo controlled.

Theyre pretty insecure though.
Electromagnets need power to stay locked so aside from upping your monthly bills theres the problem of powercuts, if you isolate it from power then it will unlock allowing easy access to intruders.

Servos are also fairly easy to get around, pass enough voltage through the system and it will automaticaly unlock your doors.

Then theres the fobs themselves, by listening with a scanner you can pick up the frequency used, transmit the same frequency and your in.
With cars this is trickier because cars are not stationary so you need to be fairly out in the open with your scanner and will be seen.

A neighbour cold easily hack your door though because he'd have all the time in the world to do it.

P.S. Chroma is correct. It would be too easy for professionals to break into your house. Though, I think, in your case Lainie they would find it very difficult to get back out.

They are actually fairly secure now and most are battery powered so you don't have to worry if you have a power cut, they also are low battery consumption and give you plenty of warning when your batteries are running low and even if they do run out of power you can still use a key. I'm a self employed Joiner and have fitted a few similar to these and had no complaints or security issues as of yet.

I can easily get into houses as it is, you ever heard of a bump key? Just cut a blank key for every common lock at the maximum grind and place it into the start of the lock, start turning it outside the lock and then bump it in whilst twisting.
It will leave all the correct tumblers in place from friction.
The scary part is this happens almost silently, and without any forced evidence so it looks to the insurance company like youve left the door open.

LOL lainie you actually pay for remote central locking in a car, its lur part of the price.
If you had a door which had a electromagnet im sure with force ie enough of a push you could out power the magnets strength also allowing easy access, its the loud way but easy if your away enjoying the beach on the otherside of the world!

how come the key fobs for electric gates (ie to an underground car park) for instance, are huge! you couldnt put them on a key ring, theyre too big, why can they make them nice andsmall like a cars remote, just a bit annoying to me is all
