My best advice is don't set up your tent anywhere near Calais.

I went camping with the wife several years ago across Europe starting at Calais going to South of France and up across Monaco etc. I remember getting a book from WH Smith which listed every single camp site in Western Europe and also showed the location and type of facilities available at each of the site. It was such a long time ago so cannot remember if it was by the AA or by the Camping Club of Great Britain. It was quite handy because it would also give some local information near to the site. All I can remember is that it was the most useful camping tool I ever brought.

Archies guide for tomtom is good. Also an Android app but you have to pay about ?2.
Love camping in France, Loads of campsites. Most large towns will have a Municipal campsite (government not private) Slightly basic but 10 euros a night.
A fantastic campsite for me was on Ile de Rey, an island off La Rochelle. Virtually on the beach. Take a bucket and collect mussels and boil em in the 1 Euro wine with some shallots..mmmmm, That and fresh warm bread, can't beat it.

Just for reference, if you in a hotel, and require
an extra pillow be SURE you got correct phrase

as you think your saying "can I have an extra pillow"
is simular French words to "can I have a prostitute please"
