    need your help peeps

First off, thanks T,bone for suggesting this post 

And thanks to Tinkertiler for a post already made and the replies of encouragement on it

Right here goes – I quit smoking on the 18th of june, im well aware im not the first and wont be the last person to do it.

But I’d really value any ex smokers tips on how or what helped them keep their quit, I know any addiction requires real will power and this is really testing me to the limit.

I don’t find it easy even with the help of the tablets im on but on a more positive note, in my opinion the tabs work better for me than the patches ever did, I guess the best place I could have put the patches was over my gob so that I quite literally couldn’t have smoked

Ive already had the “I’ll give u summit to suck” if you feel like it from the hubby, so please – no wise crack replies, im also already getting a lot of offline and online support but you can never get enough when your fighting an addiction so I really would value any help you peeps can offer.

Btw I’m quitting with the help of this tablet Champix Information and Stopping Smoking it is helping but Im still finding it really really difficult.

Thanks for reading, I look forward to reading your replies 

        Ellos there,

What can i say.... the first step is admitting you have a problem! Well done and group hug all round!..
Soz... had american head on there!

I suggest you dip your Cigs in sumethin nasty.....(no lads... easy on the pet comments!)... like vinegar ad let dry....

Then fancy a light up....pull out one of those doozies and it will put you off for life........................ well unless you are a fine northern lass who loves the smell and taste as it reminds them of thier childhood waiting for dinner in the local chippy.............

Worth a try? Does it work?.............no idea....................i dont smoke!

ok ok this might not work at all but hey....i bet neither does giving you somethin to suck!!

        nice!..
You cant disguise the smell ov Poo - - But you can sprinkle it with glitter!

Giving up smoking is hard. As you said it's an addiction. The tobacco companies don't put in thousands of addictive chemicals for nothing. It's all about them keeping you addicted so they can make lots of money.

Cravings only last a few minutes. Remember that and just hang on when they happen. Try to keep occupied.

Think of all the negative things about smoking and remember you are an addict, but you can beat the addiction. I know you can do it. You just haven't managed to convince yourself 100% yet.

Me and the missus gave up about 3 months ago now and we are still going strong as mentioned earlier in here you need to keep occupied and it will get easier in time I for one still get the urge to spark up but then i add up how much money it used to cost every month ! for me it was ?280.00 and thats without the missus @ around the same !!.

            DON'T DO IT STAY STRONG>

Just to echo what everyone else said, it's not easy. I smoked for years and ended up rolling my own smokes. I got to the point where i was smoking 1/2 oz of baccy a day. I knew i had to stop. I set my self little targets, First was not to smoke when i first woke up.Then it was not to smoke after breakfast and so on.Once i got the first day out the way it was to go 2 days then three etc.

The one thing i did though was to keep a couple of ciggies nearby. That way i knew if i really needed one it was there. It made it easier for me, theres nothing worse than craving something and knowing you can't have it.So having a ciggie nearby made it that bit easier for me. Just keep going you CAN do it

              THE TRUTH
              The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

most people dont advise that but it does help me, cept ive got 200 , no tbh ive only got the carton in my house as they were left over from when i was smoking, i will at some point get rid of them, but i was like yourself for the first week as i carried a packet around with me, but then i gave them to my mate

thanks once again to everyone for the replies

I first decided to stop when ciggies were raised to 50p for 20. I finally managed it when they were around ?4. I still occasionally get a whiff of smoke and think of the good old days. For me the thing that helped (besides the patches) was breaking old habits. Sit down and think when the urge is at it's worst and avoid these situations, i.e that coffee after a meal etc. If it gets really bad then remember in 5 minutes the urge really will go.

You are doing realy well berley...keep going. As said earlier, the cravings don't last that long and you just need to take your mind off them for 5 minutes and they will pass. I used to nibble on those wee fresh baby corn sticks as it saved me chewing sweets or chocolate as a substitute and stopped me putting on too much weight.

What worked for me (gave up 15 months ago) was not saying I'd given up, I just decided I was going to try not to have a cigarette that day, if I really wanted one though, I was going to have one, used to carry a packet of 10 Regal King Size around with me, on more than a few occassions I picked up a fag, just before I lit it though, I'd put it down, and say to myself, I'll have it in a minute, and go do something, when I came back, I'd calmed down enough to put it back in the packet.

Thats what worked for me though, I think everyone is different, btw I'm 48 and I'd been smoking for over 30yrs, also I'm a prison officer, so a pretty stressful job, as I said, it worked for me, I think it's more in the mind set than anything else

I was a 30 year veteran of the cigs until 7 years ago when I gave up. I had previously tried using will power, patches, gum etc but the thing that worked for me was the Nicorette Inhalator.

It was quite a revelation. You still have the full action of smoking, i.e. your hands and mouth are busy puffing away, and best of all, they taste like B&H. As soon as you start using one, you're better off because there's no tar, just nicotine. In addition, you tend to smoke one for only 2-3 minutes at a time rather than the normal 5 minutes for a standard ciggie.

In effect then, I didn't actually give up smoking. I just switched my smoking habit to the Inhalator and would have carried on like this forever if necessary. It didn't look too cool in the local Top Rank nighterie but that was easy enough to deal with. Great for long flights or anywhere that you're not allowed to smoke.

The funny thing is that you rarely see them advertised. Probably too successful!
