    Speed limit and work

I'm lookin for some advice or for someone to point me in the right direction. I had a meeting with management today in work and they are saying they are going to clamp down on people breaking the speed limit in company vehicles.

The vehicles are restricted not too exceed 62mph and they have tracking devices fitted to them. This shows everywhere the vehicle has been, how long it was parked up, the speed it was doing at any given time etc etc. Big brother is watching us
Anyway they are now saying they have a legal obligation to make sure we don't exceed the speed limit on the roads eg 30mph. They say it's not them choosing to do this but they have a duty to make sure no one exceeds the speed limit. They are saying they will discipline anyone breaking the limit constantly.

I don't think they are legaly obliged , but i think if they show the insurance company they are taking steps to prevent people speeding they may get a reduction in the cost of the insurance policy. Any thoughts on this ?

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

they are protecting themselves against possible coporate manslaughter etc

for example, you speed and kill someone. the md is liable.

they are allowed to do it, there was a big advertising campaign over the summer

Thanks m8. I know why they are doing it and agree in principal. They can do it BUT do they have too. Is it a legal requirement or a choice

yes.. they are well in their rights mate, its their insurance that covers any outcome rom you hitting / wiping someone out in one of their vehicles.. also imagine the backlash if one of their drivers in one of their vans kills someone through speeding..

i hate getting military transport if driven by a MT driver as they go bang on the limit everywhere.. 30, 40, 60, 70 etc..

but they always say, if they get banned they loose their job so thats why they stick to the limit

think yourself lucky m8 they have taken all the vehicals off us in case we have an accident (brought on through usa accidents btw). they probably will get a discount, same as smoking laws in workplace. as long as your not persistantly doing wrong you should be ok but companys are looking for a getout clause everywhere these days and being written up will not get you a good point score when it comes to redundancy. good luck

I strongly agree in keeping people driving within the limits. What i object to is the fact everything they do has to have an ultimatum of men being disciplined. I know theres not much we can do about it but i'm looking to see if they are just doing their usual bullshit and lying through their teeth. Do they have a legal requirement ? I don't think they have or i think they would have to report anyone breaking the limit to the police and provide evidence. The police are there to police.

yes mate they have a legal obligation to themselves not to the police.. it's them that settle the compo if it goes wrong in their vans

just like i have a legal obligation not to randomly shoot people whilst on gate guard

touching on what opsmonkey said, most companies are self insuring up to a certain point also. so it could cost loads if an accident was to occur
