Most phones you can use mp3 format as your ringtone.

Bit of info on what phone your trying to make ringtone for.

you could use a free prog called audacity which i have used for ringtones, as far as how to use it just download it and play with it.

The D600 can play mp3 files. Just copy the mp3 to the music folder on the phone and it will work.
